JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is a professional position in the Department of Health Broward County Health Department HIV/AIDS Surveillance section. This position is responsible for the coordination of the HIV Surveillance activities (HIV Coordinator) and general AIDS surveillance activities. This position is classified as sensitive and the incumbent is responsible for the following confidential data sets: HIV/AIDS case reporting and surveillance data and Out of County data. The incumbent must maintain state and local confidentiality/security policies as related to HIV/AIDS surveillance data and information in accordance with Florida Statute 384, Florida Administrative Code 64-D, Health Department guidelines, rules and regulations, and receive no valid complaints concerning the security of HIV/AIDS information.
HIV Surveillance Duties:
Receives, tracks, and follows up on all HIV reports submitted by CHD's, laboratories, and patient care providers. Maintains HIV surveillance log books in a clear, easy to use manner; by date of test, provider, type of test, and patient name. Reviews patient care records of suspected HIV cases and accurately identifies the required medical evidence to establish reportable HIV cases as defined by the CDC. Works closely with the STD staff to ensure 100% return on referral cases. Completes all special studies assigned by the CDC or SHO by the requested due date. Accurately completes all paperwork with 5% or less error rate.
AIDS Surveillance Duties:
Investigates suspected AIDS cases reported in a geographically assigned area of Broward County. Reviews patient care records of suspected AIDS cases and accurately identifies the required medical evidence to establish reportable AIDS cases as defined by the CDC. Accurately completes the HARS reporting form (with 5% or less error rate) on those cases meeting criteria.
Assists with development of methods to expand HIV/AIDS Surveillance in order to ensure 100% reporting of AIDS and reportable HIV cases.
Prepares monthly status reports, and QI reports as needed.
Reviews assigned reading material to remain current: i.e. diagnostics, treatment and legal issues.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFIATIONS:
- Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
- Current employee of the Florida Department of Health including OPS, CS, SES, or SMS.
- Valid driver’s license, free of major infractions and access to an automobile to be utilized for work purposes.
- Experience working in HIV Surveillance Program.
- Experience filing out CDC 50.42A Form.
- Experience using Axiom Pro.
PREFERED QUALIFITIONS:
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS.
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS Surveillance’s basic protocols.
- Knowledge of HIV laboratory test results.
- Experience handling or working with medical records.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
