This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment.  OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan. This is a temporary position with duties associated with Covid-19 response.  This is not a remote position.

The incumbent must be Tier 1 IT technician and is responsible for providing technical support to all internal users of the Florida Department of Health in Broward County. The incumbent for this position will work in a highly diversified and distributed data processing environment and will function as member of the Information Technology Help Desk team maintaining and troubleshooting PC workstation, peripherals, communications equipment, network systems and related IT equipment.


Primary responsibility includes knowledge of computer help desk, IP telephony, support networking systems, active directory, able to work in the fields installing, maintaining and supporting networked (LAN/WAN) PC workstations in a Windows and MS Office environment and responding to customer requests for support. Install software on workstation and answer, train and respond to requests for IT technical support made by the Florida Department of Health in Broward County staff. Help in maintaining the network environment in working condition, conduct on-site reviews of compliance to system standards, protocols and procedures established by the Department of Health. The network components include workstations, printers, scanners, servers, switches, Troubleshoots workstations problems, computer peripherals, and network connectivity and user network access. Perform hardware and software installation. 


Coordinate with other technical staff on the installation of new equipment, software and other related hardware/software upgrades.


Provide timely contact acknowledgment to health department customers within 4 hours of receiving the designated call or work order 


Records all service calls in the Help Desk Work Order application within a 24 hour period of receiving the designated call. 


Maintains continuing education and general health department training as required or suggested by the section, agency and DOH policies.

Coordinates activities with contract vendors on computer hardware, software or computer cable as needed


Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Valid driver's license with the ability to work in the field at Covid19 testing  sites.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including late evenings, and weekends as directed by program needs.
  • A minimum of Tier One IT technician experience.
    Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
