This position requires you to work on site at one of our facilities located throughout Broward County.

 

This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment.  OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

This is a professional OPS Senior Health Educator position responsible for providing health promotion, health equity, public health education services and coordinator for the SWAT Clubs in Broward County. This position is under the supervision of the Tobacco Prevention Program Manager in the Community Health Division of a large County Health Department.

 

Supporting the development and implementation of policy and environmental changes that will impact tobacco prevention and control efforts for the Florida Department of Health in Broward including but not limited to areas Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT).

 

Collaborating with the Tobacco Prevention Specialist on the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all strategies and activities as outlined in the Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida annual work plan to address assigned policy areas. Confers with the Tobacco Prevention Specialist to complete and submit quarterly reports in the Automated Tobacco Activity Collection System (ATACS), special reports, end of year reports, and other requests for information.

 

Ensuring the establishment and maintenance of required Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) programs in schools and community settings in Broward County.

 

Providing technical assistance to local SWAT clubs and promoting the youth empowerment model to increase knowledge of tobacco issues and garner interest in tobacco prevention related advocacy.

 

Participating in Tobacco Free Partnership of Broward County meetings and providing monthly updates of program and policy implementation activities and related information.

 

Preparing presentations to facilitate meeting, trainings, key informant interviews, and/or workshops.

 

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  2. Experience working with Middle and High school age students.
  3. Professional experience using Microsoft Office applications.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
  2. Experience planning and organizing community events.
  3. Experience establishing partnerships / committees within a K-12 school system/district.
  4. Experience with public speaking and delivering presentations to community partners.
  5. Tobacco-free and a nonsmoker.
