This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment.  OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.

DESCRIPTION

This position reports directly to the Senior Community Health Nurse Supervisor with technical assistance by the Laboratory Director, TB physician, and Lead Lab Technologist.

 

The duties and responsibilities are those of a Laboratory Technician II are to  prepare packaging and shipment of specimens for COVID-19. Monitor lab specimen storage unit and assist Lead Tech with any laboratory quality and assurance issues. Required to conduct quality control processes to ensure adherence to CLIA licensing requirements.

 

Assists with quality control of lab specimen temperatures, testing areas, and waived lab tests,

 

May be required to travel to other DOH facilities.

 

Expected to work collaboratively with staff and provide optimal internal/external customer service.

 

Expected work weekdays and weekends as assigned

 

Other duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of Laboratory, practices, and techniques

Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology

Knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention

Knowledge of  DOH-Broward Services and Public Health

Knowledge and understanding of microbiology and pathology of bacteria and viruses

Knowledge of epidemiology/infection control practices

Ability to package and ship biohazard material (Lab specimens)

Ability to practice standard precautions

Ability to participate in the planning and implementing laboratory procedures

Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical, social, and emotional problems

Ability to observe and respond to patient’s reactions to phlebotomy

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments

Ability to prioritize workload

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to investigate and report laboratory issues

 

 

Minimum Qualification

  • Experience working as a Lab Tech in a Hospital, Primary Health Care setting , Tuberculosis, Family Planning Clinic or Outreach Setting.
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting with packaging and shipping of specimens.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification as a Phlebotomist.
  • A minimum of one year experience working as a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant.
  • A current Florida Basic X-Ray Machine Operator License, Florida Statutes 468.304.
