This position requires you to work on site at one of our facilities located throughout Broward County.

 

This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment.  OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Dispenses prescriptions in accordance with various programs that the Health Department supports (ie: HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Epilepsy, Insulin, etc.). Oversee pharmacy technician team when on duty. 

Duties include data entry of prescription information, dispensing medications, quality assurance, providing medication education and counseling to patients, and providing clinical assessment that is necessary to ensure patient safety and improve compliance.

Provides drug information to health care professionals and/or clients as well as patient consultation. Instructs patients (and/or parents) on medication administration techniques as applicable. Maintains and monitors the records and medication profiles of patients enrolled in various programs.

Prepares and coordinates the appropriate pay sources, program codes and forms for proper pharmacy billing. Maintains a perpetual inventory control system for drugs and other items as appropriate. Orders drugs from wholesaler or supplier on a daily basis (or as required).

Generates and/or reviews monthly reports of the different programs to monitor expenditures and ensure accuracy as directed. Reports any problems/deficiencies to the Senior Pharmacist or Pharmacy Manager and helps to develop solutions. Reads and evaluates pharmacy literature and medical journals to keep informed of new developments related to the practice of pharmacy.

Complies with policy and procedures regarding drug free workplace and HIPAA and is responsible for Information Security and HIPAA standards. Performs other duties as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours, or days in the event of an emergency.
  2. Licensed pharmacist in the state of Florida in accordance with Chapter 465, Florida Statues.
  3. At least two (2) year of professional pharmacy experience in the past three (3) calendar years.
  4. Familiar with Florida's pharmacy laws and regulations, including those related to the handling and dispensing of controlled substances.
  5. Experience with advanced pharmacy practices, such as clinical consultations, managing pharmacy operations, simple compounding and / or implementing quality improvement initiatives.
  6. Experience in pharmacology and aseptic techniques, ensuring the safe preparation and dispensing of medications.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited pharmacy program.
    2. At least three (3) years of professional experience in a community pharmacy setting, with a focus on leadership or supervisory roles.
    3. At least three (3) years of previous experience managing pharmacy operations, including staff supervision and inventory management.
    4. Previous experience or have additional qualifications working with special populations, including patients with tuberculosis (TB), HIV, epilepsy, pediatric and elderly patients, as well as those requiring extensive polypharmacy management.
    5. At least one (1) years of compounding experience within a retail/ hospital/ compounding pharmacy.
    6. Proficiency in one or more additional languages.
