DUTIES:

This position report to the Drowning Prevention Program Manager. This is a professional Senior Health Educator (SHE) position responsible for carrying out grant deliverables for the Pool Safely Grant Program offered by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.  SHE is responsible for scheduling and providing trainings, educational presentations, and community outreach to community partners throughout Broward County.  Provides trainings to Property Managers, Certified Pool Operators, and other members of the public about pool and spa safety laws and drowning prevention strategies.  Responsible for conducting train the trainer presentations to Child Protective Investigators and key staff of local family strengthening agencies on home and pool safety practices.  Senior Health Educator is also responsible for providing education to pool construction, installation, and pool service companies.  Attends community meetings to represent DOH-Broward as requested.  Provide and develops new initiatives pertaining to the current data trends. 

 

Works with the program manager for logistical program support, attend community partner meetings, making copies, create documents. Ordering supplies, and other administrative duties as assigned.  Create new initiatives pertaining to community needs.  Assist with the planning of annual water safety and drowning prevention events.  Participate in conference calls, meetings, presentations, and trainings as required.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of health education.
  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
  • Skill in operating a variety of audiovisual and computer equipment.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems and other activities relating to the improvement of policies and practices.
  • Ability to evaluate health education practices for compliance with applicable statutes, rules and regulations.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (excellent verbal and written communication skills).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse population.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate the development and implementation of health promotion and public health education programs, projects, and policies. 
  • Ability to prepare a wide variety of written material such as reports, memoranda, pamphlets, work plans and grant requests.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  1. Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
  2. Experience conducting community outreach and conducting presentations.
  3. Experience drafting correspondences, quarterly reports, and presentations.
  4. Experience collaborating with community partners.
  5. Experience utilizing Microsoft office products.
  6. Valid driver’s license free of major infractions and access to an automobile to be utilized for work purposes and receive reimbursement for mileage.

 

Preferred - 

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Public Health, Health Education, Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field.

2. Minimum of two (2) years of experience working for a large public health agency.

3. Experience in data collection and analysis.
