COMMUNITY HEALTH OUTREACH PROGRAMS

INTERNAL AGENCY OPPORTUNITY

This position requires you to work on site at one of our facilities located throughout Broward County.

Description of Duties

This is a professional position responsible for coordinating, overseeing and conducting community health outreach initiatives, health education and promotion to support and assist the Broward County Health Department’s Community Health Director.  Independent judgment is used in planning, directing, managing, administering and supervising. 

This position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees' work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.

Coordinates, oversees and conducts outreach activities regarding routine, urgent and emergent community health and communicable disease issues. 

Supervises a team of Outreach staff within the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Outreach Program, HIV and KidCare Program Responsibilities include coordinating and guiding their outreach activities, maintaining and updating tracking documents (e.g., Excel spreadsheets), identifying and approving outreach locations, ensuring consistent and effective community engagement.  Oversees the development and submission of monthly and quarterly reports documenting staff outreach reports, locations visited, and community impact.  Provides strategic direction and support to ensure outreach efforts align with program goals and effectively reach target populations.

Responsible for the expansion of immunization outreach efforts by building and strengthening partnerships with public and private schools; local parks and recreation centers, daycares; low-income housing units, and mobile home parks, etc. Identify opportunities and coordinate to develop community-based events that align with the community needs.  Ensures that outreach events are well supported to effectively promote immunization awareness and access.

Collaborate with the PIO (Public Information Officer) and Special Projects Coordinator to select, design and print materials 

Conduct Training for outreach staff from all programs, schedule events, coordinate mass mailings, oversee and/or perform blast emails and oversee and conduct street, partner and business outreach. 

Oversees, develops and conducts community presentations on public health issues and services and programs provided by the  Broward County Health Department. Develops and/or orders brochures, printed materials, information sheets, and Power Point presentations to ensure the accurate and constructive representation of Broward County Health Department programs and services in the community.

Coordinates attendance or attends community events and health fairs, distributing materials pertaining to each of the Florida Department of Health in Broward County’s services and programs. Ensures attendance or attends monthly meetings and events countywide, including, but not limited to meetings with community partners, service organizations, HOA’s (Homeowner Associations) and faith-based organizations to distribute materials and increase the public presence of the Broward County Health Department.

Oversees the coordination of and/or coordinates the Outreach Planning Group, Nutrition and Fitness Task Force, Immunization Task Force and other committees as assigned.

.Responsible for the preparation of purchasing and the approval of purchasing including the assignment and responsibility of a Purchasing Card

Other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
  2. Experience supervising staff in multiple outreach programs.
  3. Data collection and analysis experience in community outreach programs in a public health setting.
  4. Experience supervises outreach program including Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Outreach Program, HIV and KidCare Program.
  5. Experience conducting training for outreach staff from all programs, coordinate mass mailings, oversee and/or perform blast emails and oversee and conduct street, partner and business outreach.
  6. Experience with program management and implementation of a community coalition.
  7. Experience developing written reports, deliverables, and correspondences.
  8. Experience managing and implementing a health insurance or financial eligibility determination program.
  9. Experience managing and implementing a public health program.
  10. Experience developing written reports, deliverables, and correspondences for outreach program.
  11. Experience with budget development and management in a community outreach program.
  12. Experience with coalition building and collaborating with community partners. 
  13. Current employee of Florida Department of Health.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience delivering presentations on public health issues in a large community setting.
  2. Experience supervising outreach staff for a minimum of five years in a public health setting.
  3. Experience managing Outreach Planning Group, Nutrition and Fitness Task Force, Immunization Task Force and other committees.
