Position Opening: Legal Assistant I  

Location:  County Court Unit – MTC Central Courthouse

Salary: $34,348 yearly plus full benefits

F/T Position: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

Job Purpose:

 

This position involves diversified tasks related to criminal court proceedings needed to support the Assistant State Attorneys in our County Court Unit.  The selected candidate must be organized, detail oriented, and be able to handle confidential matters with the utmost discretion. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Organize case files needed for the daily court docket within the required time frames
  • Update case files using our in-house case management software (SAFES)
  • Scan and attach all required case related documents into SAFES 
  • Request and obtain reports, statements, and other pertinent information from law enforcement agencies needed to file cases
  • Search and retrieve case information from the Clerk of Courts Odyssey system
  • Processing e-filings and file cases with the Clerk of Courts Office as instructed by the ASAs
  • Maintain the attorney’s calendar and schedule depositions as needed
  • Telephone communications with victims, witnesses, and law enforcement personnel
  • Receive, sort, and distribute daily mail, typing, data entry, filing and other general clerical tasks
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant State Attorneys or the Support Staff Supervisor

 

Qualifications:

 

  • High School degree and at least two (2) years clerical or secretarial experience  
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet daily deadlines
  • Ability to lift files boxes weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Knowledge of legal terminologies, local rules of court and case filing a plus
