Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a professional position which markets employment and training programs; serves individuals who are unemployed and/or seeking new jobs; provides counseling services to individuals with vocational needs by determining interests, aptitudes, and training; refers individuals to appropriate private and/or public agencies for aid assistance or training; and secures employer cooperation in the placement of referred candidates.
Promotes, develops, and facilitates training opportunities and labor exchange services within a One Stop environment. Plans, coordinates, and implements a marketing plan which includes a system to contact employers, community-based organizations, and civic organizations on a regularly scheduled basis to ensure that they are aware of services available through the One Stop facility.
Provides assisted core services to individuals as required but is not limited to: Assisting applicants in obtaining appropriate employment by evaluating skills, work experience, abilities, and education; referring applicants to appropriate available job openings; contacting employers to develop jobs aligned with applicants; vocational or career objectives; and providing in depth counseling to individuals having difficulty choosing an occupational field.
Selects, notifies, and meets with recently unemployed persons for the Priority Reemployment Planning Program. Meets with selected candidates; provides orientation on services available; reviews resumes; and advises on practices to assist individuals gain employment. Provides information on services available; explains the importance of completing the resume, background information, and virtual recruiter portion of the state's job website. Also assists individuals with unemployment benefits issues to aid in handling the extensive number of calls and inquiries.
Directs and participates in applicant screening, selection, and evaluation; provides information and prepares correspondence to applicants and employers; coordinates with and refers clients to other community based organizations for supportive services.
Acts as complaint specialist for the Fort Myers Center. Process complaints, maintains logs, and assists clients with filing complaints for Migrant Seasonal Farmworkers Apparent violations, and the One-Stop Wagner-Peyser Complaint System Log.
NOTES:The above duties and responsibilities require input and retrieval of data using a computer system to create and update records, conduct searches, review reports, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities with Microsoft Office applications including but not limited to Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Knowledge of employment development and/or placement principles.
- Knowledge of basic public relations principles.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of interviewing and counseling.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others.
- Ability to input and retrieve data using a computer system to create and update records, conduct searches, review reports, etc.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to deal with the public in a tactful, courteous, and effective manner.
- Ability to work independently by planning, organizing, and coordinating work assignments.
- Ability to counsel individuals in need of vocational guidance.
- Ability to speak, clearly and correctly.
- Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
- Ability to learn and use other applicable State of Florida and/or CareerSource computer systems.
Qualifications:
As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records.
Minimum:
- Successful completion of the Florida Certified Workforce Professional Tier 1 training within one (1) year of employment in this position.
- Required to travel and must provide own transportation.
Preferred:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Human Services, Education, or a related filed and 2 years of experience in sales and/or marketing.
- Professional or nonprofessional experience in area related to employment security, interviewing, counseling, job placement, aptitude testing and assessments, job development, or job analysis may substitute on a year-to-year basis for the preferred college education.
- Registered in EmployFlorida.

The Employment Security Representative I is a professional position with Florida Commerce which promotes employment and training programs alongside of the Workforce Development Board frontline staff. You will focus on placement services for career seekers using Employ Florida (EF), job boards, local newspapers, and community resources. Ensures quality referrals are based on employer defined skill sets and requirements. Employers are provided with job order services, job creation, updates, placement verifications, follow-up and hiring events. You will make sure career seekers and employers understand all services provided by CareerSource Southwest Florida.
