The Work You Will Do:
District Geotech Engineer-Const / District 1 & 7 Materials
A Geotechnical Construction Engineer supports the Florida Department of Transportation by evaluating soil and subsurface conditions, designing safe and effective foundations for transportation infrastructure, and providing technical guidance during construction. They ensure compliance with FDOT standards, address geotechnical challenges such as settlement and slope stability, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance the safety, durability, and cost-efficiency of roadways and structures.

Annual Salary Range:
$80,158.97 - $ 103,735.13
A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $ 478.40 will be added to the annual salary.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
Deliver managed services while being consistent, predictable and repeatable. Foster teamwork within and across work units. Assure the very best customer service possible.
Review Quality Control plans, Construction plans, specifications, procedures and any other documents necessary to execute the Department’s mission. Provide clear comments as requested in time to be useful to the customer. Offer solutions when objecting to the approach that is proposed.
Perform engineering analysis required to determine the best approach to Department soil and foundation needs. Perform engineering analysis required to determine the appropriate foundation installation technique and parameters. Perform engineering analysis required to determine if the installed foundation meets the design requirements. Design foundations and other geotechnical solutions to support Department infrastructure. Sign and seal engineering reports, geotechnical designs and specifications as required.
Support consultant contracts in accordance with applicable rules, laws and procedures. Review the consultant work effort. Review and comment on invoices.
Evaluate project/process to determine current performance status. Make/recommend improvements to optimize delivery or improve results. Notify stakeholders of any changes to the project/process. Ensure project/process is consistent, predictable and repeatable.
Provide materials related technical support to customers as requested. Provide support in time to meet the customer’s needs. Provide guidance and training to customers.
Analyze materials data for contract and procedural compliance. Take timely action to correct any errors in the data. Actively facilitate the notification of stakeholders of errors, failures or negative trends.
Perform engineering analysis of in-place conditions. Perform warranty inspection and analysis in the field as required. Determine the cause(s) of the in-place conditions. Engineer solutions if necessary or requested by the customer. Sign and seal engineering report and recommendations as required.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- The concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of Geotechnical Engineering.
- Engineering Design: Construction, Production and/or Operations.
Skills in:
- Skill in using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments.
Ability to:
- Ability to operate a personal computer for Word processing, spreadsheets and database applications.
- Analyze and interpret engineering data.
- Solve problems relating to engineering.
- Plan, design, evaluate and investigate engineering works and systems.
- Apply engineering quantitative techniques.
- Monitor and inspect engineering projects.
- Plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Communicate engineering information effectively.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Chapter 471 Florida Statutes.
Other Job-Related Requirements:
- Employee will be required to be responsive to emergency situations within a very short timeframe and serve in the Transportation Emergency Management Team (TEMT).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Florida Statute 471.
