A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or

Anticipated receipt of a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university.

The anticipated hiring salary for this position is $36,287.68 annually.


This is a technically demanding professional and administrative position responsible for developing, directing, and coordinating the multiple use management, recreational plan, and volunteer program on the state lands and elsewhere as required in Lee, Collier, and Hendry Counties.

Responsible for coordinating the implementation of the management plan on state lands.  This includes supervising work, and volunteer crews/projects, watershed manipulation, forestry inventory, wildfire surveys, prescribed burnings, exotic species control and developing programs for recreation.  This position may be required to perform Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) work, including FIA Certification by the United States Forest Service and gathering and recording of FIA plot data in the field. 

Provides wildfire and emergency support as directed.  Assists in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans and hazardous fuels mitigation.  Assists in the enforcement of Florida’s open burning laws and regulations. Attends training and classes in emergency management.

Responsible for holding public workshops and working with local agencies (Department of Environmental Protection, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, National Park Service and police agencies) to ensure cooperative efforts and input into the management of the forest.  Responsible for managing the Caloosahatchee Forestry Center volunteer program.

Responsible for keeping abreast and knowledgeable of forestry topics, research, endangered species laws, ecosystem management techniques, and prescribed fire.

Performs other related work as assigned, which may include the handling of revenue.
