*This is a fulltime Career Service (CS) Health Educator Consultant position working with the Department of Health in Lee County.*
The Health Educator Consultant in this position is under the supervision of the Health Education Program Manager. The general duties of this position support all activities approved by the Florida Department of Health in Lee County that are directed toward reduction of risk for tobacco/nicotine use of all kinds including smoking and to promote smoking cessation among youth and adults. The Health Educator Consultant is expected to have the ability to work independently, always presenting conduct becoming of a professional of the Florida Department of Health in Lee. This position is classified as a sensitive position. Incumbent handles protected health information on a need-to-know basis following Florida Department of Health (FDOH), HIPAA and Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures. Employees abide by State/Federal laws governing health. Incumbent may be required to work beyond normal work hours or days.
Supports efforts to reduce risk for tobacco use and promotes smoking cessation resources for both youth and adults, including Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Quit Smoking Now in-person and virtual classes. Engages with community-based organizations and other local healthcare providers to educate them about, and encourage participation in, the statewide smoking-cessation referral program. Coordinates collaboration between community providers and AHEC to implement and maintain the referral program.
Promotes policies to counteract tobacco industry influences at the retail point of sale (POS). Delivers trainings to build the knowledge, skills and abilities of Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) and Tobacco-Free Lee Coalition members and prepare them for active participation in future POS activities. Coordinates interagency collaboration by identifying opportunities with public safety agencies for prevention activities, strengthening communication channels, supporting POS objectives and other community tobacco‑control strategies. Conducts POS field surveillance activities. Updates and maintains tobacco retailers’ data in the Point-of-Sale Toolkit (POST) system.
Coordinates meetings with elected officials and provides presentations to target audiences to inform and educate on Tobacco Free Public Spaces. Collaborates with other agencies that align with tobacco free public space policies.
Attends coalition and community meetings, including Tobacco Free Lee Coalition, School Health Advisory Council, Youth Services Coalition meetings and other relevant meetings to support program deliverables and promote tobacco cessation. Participates in community outreach and tobacco debris clean-up events.
Collaborates with K-12 schools across the School District of Lee County, charter schools, and private schools to implement evidence-based tobacco control model policies.
Promotes smoke-free housing policies for market-rate multi-unit properties and condominium associations, working to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke and increase awareness of its health impact.
Provides program reporting by submitting regular updates to the Health Education Program Manager and entering grant-related deliverable information into the Automated Tobacco Activity Collection System (ATACS) database. Attends all required Bureau of Tobacco Free Florida trainings.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be tobacco-free.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have a motor vehicle to perform duties.
- Able to work evenings, weekends and/or travel outside of Lee County.
