This is an Other Personnel Service (OPS) Senior Community Health Nurse position with the Department of Health in Lee County.

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This OPS Senior Community Health Nurse position is under the supervision of the Nursing Program Specialist at a local county health department.  The position requires an understanding of public health nursing and a working knowledge of immunization policies, protocols, and schedules.  The incumbent will assist Immunizations with a specific emphasis on promotion of influenza vaccine to disparate populations and populations at greatest risk for complications of influenza.  This position requires complete and current knowledge of the immunization program including, but not limited to, childhood vaccines, adult vaccines, and overseas travel vaccines. The incumbent will assist Immunizations with a specific emphasis on promotion of influenza vaccine to disparate populations and populations at greatest risk for complications of influenza. The employee must maintain current working knowledge and skills based on the Department of Health programs and policies.  This position is classified as a sensitive position.  Incumbent handles protected health information on a need to know basis following Department of Health, HIPAA, and Information Security and Privacy Policies.  Employee abides by State/Federal laws governing health information and is responsible to maintain confidentiality, security, privacy, and integrity of protected health information. This position has access to the following information sets: Immunizations, FLSHOTS, and HMS.

 

DUTIES:

Promotes and maintains health of individuals, families and community through appropriate preventative and rehabilitative measures, provides comprehensive nursing in FDOH Lee clinics and community settings as warranted.  These services include childhood and adult immunizations, counseling/conference, health screening, health education, referrals and follow-up of the referrals, maintaining quality records in the clinic or community groups and collecting of laboratory specimens.

 

Administers childhood, adult, and overseas travel immunizations.  Accurately completes the necessary immunization records and codes immunizations given on a daily basis.  Maintains up-to-date childhood immunization information and effectively informs clients of possible vaccine side effects during each visit.  Enters immunization information into FLSHOTS and HMS systems.

 

Attends all required meeting and keeps current on new immunization schedules and guidelines.

 

Performs other miscellaneous related duties as required.  Completes weekly leave/attendance records and daily employee activity records (EARs) within required time frame.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statues or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27.

 

JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  • This position will abide by all state and federal laws, rules, and DOH policies and procedures.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a reliable motor vehicle to carry out these duties.
  • Selected immunizations or titers and/or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position.

 

Working hours: (A) Varies daily between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. based on agency needs. (B) Total hours in workweek 40.     (C) Explain any variation in work (split shift, rotation, etc.) Incumbent may be required to work additional hours if needed.
