ALCOHOL TESTING PROGRAM

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is located in the Criminal Justice Professionalism division. This full-time position ensures the accuracy and reliability of breath testing instrumentation in the state of Florida. The incumbent will calibrate breath testing instrumentation, instruct officers on approved breath testing curricula, obtain the status of subject matter expert on breath testing in the state of Florida, and testify in courts of law when summoned to do so. This position requires an individual to interact with law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and defense attorneys on a regular basis.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Testifying in legal proceedings as an expert witness in the field of breath alcohol analysis, including the scientific principles, legal and rule requirements, and procedures necessary to preserve the admissibility of breath test results in criminal proceedings;
  • Registering and ensuring the scientific accuracy of all new evidentiary breath test instrumentation as required by Chapter 11D-8, Florida Administrative Code; and
  • Providing direction, assistance and customer service for the criminal justice community, state, municipal and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as judicial branches, criminal justice training centers, and the private sector.

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelor's or advanced degree in physical, biological or forensic science from an accredited college or university with the completion of at least 15 credit hours in chemistry coursework graded at a “C” or better.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis;
  • Knowledge of basic management principles and practices;
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document work flow and other activities relating to the improvement of management practices;
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials;
  • Ability to conduct fact find finding research;
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

BASE SALARY:

  • $50,948.00

BACKGROUND:

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
