Description:

The Office of the State Attorney for the Twentieth Judicial Circuit serves the citizens of Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee Counties and covers over 5,400 square miles - making it the largest geographic circuit in the state of Florida.

We are the primary "public" prosecuting agency in the circuit, and we represent the residents in the County and Circuit Courts throughout the five counties. Currently we have over 100 Assistant State Attorneys and a total staff of approximately 300 employees.

In conjunction with local law enforcement agencies, the office reviews all arrests to determine legal sufficiency and files formal charges of crimes supported by the evidence and warranted by the facts.

The Circuit has transitioned to electronic files, and ASAs/CLIs must be comfortable with the use of technology. The State Attorney of the Twentieth Judicial Circuit is an equal opportunity employer and supports a Drug Free Workplace. For attorneys who are members of the Florida Bar, our entry level positions start at $50,000. A comprehensive benefits package including health, life and disability insurance is provided.

Training:

Extensive in-house professional development, including a trial practice series for new hires that focuses on actual cases on their dockets and in-house CLE focusing on current issues, challenges and contemporary legal conundrums. The Circuit also embraces opportunities by the Florida Prosecuting Attorney’s Association and the Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor organization for current training.

Requirements:

  • 3L Students (preference may be given to those with Certified Legal Intern Status, or have applied to take the Florida Bar Exam and have their Character and Fitness approved; however, such status is not required), or
  • Those that are eligible to be certified under Rule 11 of the Rules Governing the Florida Bar, or
  • Those that have taken the Florida bar exam and are awaiting results, or
