ADVERTISING/WORKING TITLE: EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Circuit 19-0 Ft. Pierce.

The mission of Employment Specialist is to empower offenders by providing job readiness training, building community partnerships, and offering continuous support to help them secure meaningful employment and successfully reintegrate into society.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Organizes and teaches classes to help offenders with job applications and interview skills.
  • Meets with offenders regularly to help them find jobs and provides support if they face difficulties.
  • Builds relationships with local businesses and educational institutions to create job opportunities and training programs for offenders.
  • Plans job fairs and coordinates volunteer work to help offenders gain skills and make connections that could lead to employment.
  • Helps inmates who are about to be released by starting the job search process and identifying needed services before they leave prison.

REQUIREMENTS:

Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required.

  • Must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or 4 years of professional or nonprofessional experience in job placement, parole, probation, sworn law enforcement, public investigations, clemency, victim services work or corrections work;
  • or any combination of education and work experience as described above, for a total of 4 years.

 

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
