Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a complex and responsible Interviewing Clerk position assigned to the Fort Walton Beach WIC Office in Okaloosa County.  It involves close interaction with the staff of the Health Department.  It requires interviewing and determining eligibility of clients; entering the client information into Florida Wise System and issuing WIC benefits to qualified participants.  It requires a high degree of accuracy and above average skills in working with figures.  Travel may be involved in the performance of duties.  Independent judgment and initiative will be exercised in the performance of duties as follows:


Answers the phone using proper telephone technique, routes calls to appropriate person, receives and delivers messages to staff.  Provides information to the general public on how to apply for WIC.  Schedules client appointments and explains the importance of keeping the appointment. Responsible for interviewing and determining the initial and continuing financial and categorical eligibility of clients for WIC services based on established criteria. 


Documents and determines the financial eligibility of all WIC clients according to established procedures. Enters data into the Florida Wise System. Takes new client information over the phone or in person and enters information into Florida Wise.  Explains to clients when to come to the office for eligibility determination and what documents are needed.  Completes low risk second contacts when appropriate and provides basic nutrition education.  Assists with Voter Registration activities and collects client demographics as required.


Issues WIC EBT benefits to qualified participants and prints VOC cards for all clients.  Ensures WIC participants or their authorized representatives understand the process for EBT redemption. Issues seasonal FMNP coupons to qualifying participants and explains the farmer’s market redemption process. Schedules return visits to the WIC clinic for appropriate follow up.  Assists Sr Clerk with the physical count of FMNP coupons for inventory purposes.  


Ensures that all high-risk clients are referred to the Licensed Dietitian.  Refers clients for low risk diet consult at time of certification.  Participates in outreach activities in the community.  Attends breastfeeding training and refers client questions about breastfeeding to the appropriate staff person.


Assists in other related clerical duties as required.  Remains knowledgeable of unit procedures and is able to convey appropriate information in a pleasant and business-like manner to the public and fellow staff members.  Uses proper telephone etiquette.  Handles inquiries and routine complaints concerning the WIC Program. May act as back up for front desk position for lunch times and leave absences.  Performs such duties as straightening books, pamphlets and sanitizing chairs and toys to maintain lobby area. 


Completes EARS daily and submits timesheet in a timely manner.  Attends WIC staff meetings and other training as required.

Must have verifiable experience working in an administrative role in an office or medical setting within the last 5 years.
