JOB DUTIES:
Responsible for maintenance and oversight of one or more recreation areas, with fixed facilities such as wells, bathhouses, fishing docks, campsites, picnic tables, equestrian facilities, open-air pavilions, etc. Duties include personal contact with users and visitors to the recreation area, providing information, enforcing State Forest rules and policies, and providing for the general safety of all individuals using the area. Cleaning restrooms and stocking supplies as often as needed, picking up litter, making minor electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs, landscape, and trail maintenance, posting signs and maintaining information kiosks. May work alone or as part of a group.
Responsible for planning of recreation projects, including updating the 5-year Recreation Plan, and coordinating with supervisors and other staff to accomplish funded projects and ensure they are completed properly and in a timely manner.
Responsible for coordinating and completing equipment maintenance on assigned vehicles, mowers, power tools and hand tools.
Responsible for the maintenance, recording, and reporting of recreation facility information. Examples of this activity may include gathering forest user counts, responding to public comment cards and making changes to site information as necessary in the campground reservation system.
Responsible for providing recreation-based education opportunities to State Forest users and cooperators through interpretive signage, guided hikes or tours, or talks, and coordinating with other agencies to obtain or provide recreation training and for overseeing the work of volunteers and OPS positions. May be required to work weekends and late shifts as needed. Also, may be required to work in multiple recreation areas (improved and unimproved) as needed.
Persons in this class perform periodic special duties such as assisting with prescribed burning on the State Forest and providing assigned support during special recreation events.
Performs other duties as assigned.
