The Work You Will Do:
District Structures Design Engineer – District Four / Transportation Development / Consultant Project Management / Structures
This position will direct and supervise Structures section in the administration of all in-house staff and consultants, including preparation and review of plans for simple and complicated bridges and miscellaneous structures, development of plans for damaged bridge repairs, miscellaneous structure modifications during construction, fender systems for bascule bridges, the review and approval of all shop drawings for in-house designed projects, etc. This position will also serve as liaison with Federal, State and Local agencies and/or elected officials as required, to expedite the development, review, and coordination of all phases of a project to advance the project to implementation.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Directs and supervises Structures section in the administration of all in-house staff and consultants, including preparation and review of plans for simple and complicated bridges and miscellaneous structures, development of plans for damaged bridge repairs, miscellaneous structure modifications during construction, fender systems for bascule bridges, the review and approval of all shop drawings for in-house designed projects, etc.
Serves as liaison with Federal, State and Local agencies and/or elected officials as required, to expedite the development, review, coordination, and approval of all phases of a project to advance the project to implementation. Coordinate or prepare responses to all correspondence relative to consultant management projects.
Represent the District Technical Advisory Group meetings to develop and implement solutions to statewide structures design concerns. This includes coordinating with Central Office staff on development and evaluation of design software, design criteria, structural standard drawings, and Florida Department of Transportation structures design process improvements. This also includes getting input from District Four staff and disseminating results to the District.
Monitor project progress reports and production schedules of structural activities and events to ensure compliance of the district's committed target dates. Take action to ensure timely project advancement.
Coordinates with other district sections in their evaluation with structural design criteria, such as in the case of accident damaged bridges, adjusting design in the field to accommodate problems encountered during construction, and the review and approval of structural plans submitted to Permits. The incumbent may have vendor/warrant processing responsibilities.
Serve as consultant quality control review coordinator.
Plan, evaluate, and develop techniques in computer aided and drafting design (CADD) to facilitate interaction with roadway design units. Sign and seal all structural plans prepared by Structures.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Florida Statute 471.

- Responsible for adhering to the provision s and requirement of section 215.422. F.S. related State Comptroller’s rules and Department of Transportation’s invoice processing and warrant distribution procedures.
