Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position provides support in an integrated clinic setting within the Medical Services Section of the Okaloosa County Health Department (OCHD). Position provides nursing assistant level support for clinical operations and primary back-up for the Immunizations Clerk in the Fort Walton and Crestview offices. The position requires display of exceptional customer service, ability to communicate effectively and demonstration of willingness to assist others in problem-solving.

 

Provides nursing assistant-level support for clinical operations. Prepares clients for exams and assists health care providers with other tasks as directed. Obtains vital signs, height and weight on clients. Documents findings legibly and accurately in the electronic health record. Acts as a chaperone and provides assistance during procedures. Works in collaboration with other

members of the health care team to provide quality care in an effective manner which meets client’s health care needs. Performs routine housekeeping duties in the clinic assuring a safe and hygienic work environment by keeping examination rooms clean, clinic work areas orderly and stocked. Works with the nurse to ensure that surgical supplies are autoclaved; cleaned, disinfected,

sterilized and readily available on a daily basis. Performs in house lab test under the direction of the nurse, nurse practitioner, and/or physician and records findings in the electronic health record. Performs venipuncture and prepares specimens for testing and shipping according to Florida Department of Health (FDOH) policy. Uses HMS EHR lab module to input all collected lab specimens, completes test related questions and submits for outside laboratories. Follows up with actions as directed by team leader and supervisor.

 

Provides back-up support for the Immunizations Clinic. Responsible for greeting/processing all immunization clients. Interviews/determines eligibility for the Vaccines for Children Program, as well as other immunizations. Schedules/checks in all immunization clients into the HMS and FL SHOTS database. Accurately inputs demographic, financial and third-party insurance information into the database. Enters immunizations into databases. Performs other related duties as required in support of the Agency’s vision and mission. Coverage will be assigned based on organizational need.

 

Provides back-up support for the Medical Records office. Prepares medical records as needed for clinical appointments, filing and scanning paper documents and attaching these into the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Maintains, scans/attaches all medical documents and correspondence ensuring charts, forms and documents are organized in the EHR and/or paper record according

to established guidelines and filed appropriately. Additionally, ensures that all medical records are signed out appropriately and records are tracked and reconciled daily. Ensures confidentiality of medical records at all times. Maintains strict security of the medical records room. Responds to direct messages received from clients from the Patient Health Portal following established

guidelines. Sends for and receives copies of medical records from outside agencies via digital-fax. Attaches received medical records to appropriate EHR and ensures other received faxes are routed appropriately. Ensures all legal requirements for confidentiality are met and proper release is obtained before sending or releasing records.

 

Provides back-up support for the appointment scheduling phone line. Schedules appointments following designated appointment template and scheduling guidelines. Participates in training, workshops, in services, conferences, staff meetings and other activities related to public health. Participates in cross training and staff development activities for the purpose of career

development.

 

Performs all other duties as assigned in support of the Agency’s vision and mission.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of computer equipment and all Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy skills preferred

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of six (6) months experience working in a healthcare setting
  • Valid U.S. Drivers License preferred
