Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a Para-professional position requiring a team approach in developing and implementing a dental medical home program in Alachua County. This is work: performing under the direct, indirect, and/or general supervision of the attending dentist/dental manager and serves as the chair side dental assistant/clerk for the dental program.  The program will be designed to provide treatment and improve self­management and dental care skills to Alachua County Residents. 

Assists the attending dentist In all expanded functions as permitted by the Florida Board of Dentistry. Responsible for setting up all equipment, instruments, and supplies needed for scheduled patient treatment Maintains the operative field as needed during patient treatment Passes dental instruments and supplies to the dentist for patient treatment Prepares dental materials needed for the patient treatment Polish and places fluoride on patient Dismisses patients after scheduled treatment or appointment. 

Processes client registration information and prepares and maintains patient charts and/or records according to Florida Department of Health-Alachua and Dental Department policies.

Communicates the following information to dental patients: Oral hygiene instruction, medical history updates, explanations of dental procedures and referrals to other dental or medical facilities. Addresses and relays patient concerns to the attending dentist Responsible for dating and charting pertinent dental information written and orally given to or received from a patient

Maintains and updates all the Dental Department equipment and supply inventory control systems. Restocks operatories, business offices, and supply cabinets as needed on a daily basis. Performs a physical inventory of dental office and generates purchase requisitions for needed supplies and equipment Seeks current information on product effectiveness and pricing by attending continuing education seminars, viewing product lines and dental conferences, reading dental journals and conversing with products supply representatives.

Assists with the front desk, answers the phone, makes appointments, check-in patients, updates demographics, 105, BOR, and medical history. 

Upholds quality infection control standards through the sterilization or disinfecting of all operatory and laboratory equipment, instruments and supplies. Responsible for ensuring that all the patient care is provided in and aseptic environment Handles all bio-hazardous waste and sharp objects according to Federal and state OSHA(Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines. Periodically, updates infection control knowledge through continuing education seminars and dental journals. Performs weekly cleaning of sterilization autoclave, running chemical through our vacuum lines. Ensures clinic is swept and clean.

Maintains accurate charts and records by documenting treatment rendered, referrals, and/or prescriptions given to a patient, Radiographs, and/or diagnostic casts made, readings produced, in person and/or phone conversations with patient and billing or receipt copies made.

Acknowledges clients presenting for a receipt, verifies information on billing forms. Enters the billing information into the HMS and advises the client of costs, answers client questions, verifies pay or information in the system making necessary corrections. Accepts payments for services from clients, makes change as needed, enters payments into HMS, advises client of all balances due, makes diligent efforts to collect balances due, and generates receipts for payments received. Issues one copy of the receipt to the client and retains one copy for department records. Maintains all payments received, cash and checks, in a secure manner. Tallies the cash drawer for the daily deposit, ensuring the checks, cash and credit card entries match the totals of the receipts written. Delivers the cash drawer contents to the fiscal department designee, and secures signature for the funds b.Jmed over for deposit Responsible for assisting in the process of voiding/canceling receipts and maintaining proper documentation ,shows reasons for all cancellations. Forward billing slips to Fiscal after all information is correctly and completely entered into the HMS.

Performs other duties as requested:

Attends training and seminars as they become available to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities as it relates to duties and responsibilities.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases and deformities to include symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventative health care measures.

Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems.

Knowledge of basic medical terminology/techniques.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum  - Valid State of Florida Driver's License. Training program to become expanded duties dental assistant.

Preferred - Bilingual spanish/english
