Your Specific Responsibilities:

Under the direct or indirect supervision of a physician incumbent provides medical care to adult and pediatric patients at the Florida Department of Health in Alachua County (DOH-Alachua) Family Planning and STD clinics. Care includes but is not limited to: Full physical examination with complete medical history once a year, problem focused recheck exams as scheduled or triaged into clinic. Problem focused history of the presenting complaint or exposure, a problem focused exam with appropriate cultures, stains, pap smear and gen probe testing, ordering blood testing, treatment based on current CDC treatment guidelines, removal of genital warts by cryosurgery or chemical treatment, and presumptive treatment of contacts of an STD.

1.         Order appropriate diagnostic tests.

2.         Prescribe appropriate medication for treatment of acute and chronic conditions. 

3.         Follow current treatment guidelines.

4.         Refer patients for specialty care/ consultation when needed.

5.         Provide care for minor trauma such as lacerations and musculoskeletal injuries.

6.         Perform minor surgical procedures such as suturing, I&D of an abscess, removal of a foreign body and removal of genital warts.

7.         Diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases

8.         Management of minor gynecologic problems

9.         Contraceptives, oral, injectable, IUD insertion or hormonal implants.

Provides medical care to adult and pediatric patients in the Alachua County Health Department Primary Care clinics. Care includes but is not limited to: Full physical examination with complete medical history once a year, problem focused recheck exams as scheduled or triaged into clinic. Order appropriate diagnostic tests, prescribe appropriate medication for treatment of acute and chronic conditions, follow current treatment guidelines, refer patients for specialty care/ consultation when needed, provide care for minor trauma such as lacerations and musculoskeletal injuries, perform minor surgical procedures such as suturing, I&D of an abscess, removal of a foreign body and removal of genital warts, reviews abnormal labs. Initiates follow-up and treatment for abnormal labs.

This position may be required to provide clinical coverage to all ACHD sites as needed. Mileage reimbursement will not be compensated.     

Provide medical consultation for the immunization program for child and adult immunizations and for foreign travel clinic. Follow ACIP, AAP and CDC guidelines in providing immunization consultation.

Provide medical consultation for the epidemiology department following CDC guidelines found in the current edition of the CCDM. Evaluate clientele who experience a medical emergency while in a facility and decide when transfer to an emergency room is necessary. Facilitate transfer in conjunction with nursing staff.  Coordinates and directs infectious disease activities by nursing and environmental staff.

Makes referrals as needed to specialists through HMO contracts or through the We Care Program.  

Incumbent agrees to commit to covering up to 6 days at our extended hours clinic per month, inclusive of 1 Saturday or Sunday per month.

Incumbent is required to complete time sheet, work activity reports (EARs), and mandatory trainings. Trainings may be deemed mandatory by Agency, Statute, Grant, Program, or County Administrator.  

Participate in quality assurance and peer review activities that relate to clinical care at DOH-Alachua.

Complete EARs, billing forms and time sheets within time frames.

Check email on a regular basis and respond as appropriate. 

Maintains and increases clinical knowledge of continuing education opportunities, individual study of current nursing and medical literature and stays current regarding pertinent issues affecting practice. 

Performs, records, audits, and participates in Quality Assurance Reviews. Assists in the developments, implementation, evaluation, and revision of standards of care and policies affecting the care and treatment of clients. 

Serves as preceptor and role model to University of Florida graduate nursing and PA students. 

Responsible for securing the designated information sets for the purposes of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access, for all information, both confidential and public record which is stored in hard copy or electronic formats.

•           Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

•           Incumbent will have access to records containing social security numbers in the performance of job duties.

•           Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a motor vehicle to carry out these duties.

•           Selected immunizations or titers and/ or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position.

•           This position will abide by all state and federal laws, rules, and DOH policies and procedures.

•           This position is authorized to transport confidential information outside of established DOH-Alachua facilities and must comply with parameters defined in DOHP 50-10.

•           Must have a current CPR certification or obtain such certification during employment.

•           Must be willing to undergo FIT testing.

Working hours: Daily from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M Total hours in workweek 40erforms all other duties as required.

•           Understanding and knowledge of H.I.P.A.A. the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

•           Ability to access patient needs.

•           Knowledge of (HMS) electronic medical records system.

•           Knowledge of Title X – Family Planning, current treatment trends in STD, and HIV clients.

•           Ability to perform complete physical assessments of patients.

•           Ability to identify and evaluate illnesses.

•           Ability to initiate diagnostic laboratory testing and evaluate the results.

•           Ability to manage the care of patients.

•           Ability to compile and evaluate medical histories and other clinical and laboratory data.

Qualifications:
