MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Four years of experience in automotive repair work; or
Vocational/technical training in automotive repair can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent of this position is subject to pre-employment, post-accident, random and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing, and the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse query requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations, Title 49, Part 382, CFR.
Successful completion of a drug test is a condition of employment in the position in accordance with Section 112.0455 F.S. “Drug Test” means any chemical, biological or physical instrumental analysis administered for the purpose of determining the presence or absence of a drug or its metabolites.
The incumbent must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six (6) months of appointment. The Florida Forest Service will cover the majority of the cost associated with attaining the required CDL training and the initial CDL test when administered at an agency authorized CDL training center.
Successful applicant will be subject to pre-employment and annual queries through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
Occasional to moderate travel required.
Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

JOB DUTIES:
Responsible for overseeing the equipment maintenance/repair program within the Waccasassa Forestry Center (WaFC) of the Florida Forest Service (FFS). Supervises all outlying shops and mechanics. Supports the statewide maintenance and repair of equipment for the FFS by planning, organizing, prioritizing, and assigning work to inspect, maintain, repair, fabricate, test, assess, and recommend for acquisition, disposal, or continued operation of automotive, agricultural, firefighting, emergency response and heavy construction equipment. Items of equipment included are: gasoline and diesel vans, sedans, pickup trucks, transport trucks, school buses, bucket trucks, other medium and heavy trucks; light, medium, and heavy dozers and other tracked equipment; front-end loaders, dump trucks, excavators, scrapers, and road graders; light, medium, and heavy cranes, farm tractors, and agricultural materials; lubricant inventories within the District. Provides budget information to Maintenance Administrator on shop operations costs, equipment repair and cost of materials and supplies. Reviews data from WaFC morning report and formulates a priority of the broken/downed equipment. Assists Operations/Maintenance Administrators with development and implementation of WaFC policies, procedures, and standards for equipment operation and maintenance. Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner. Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with FFS and department policies and procedures.
Manages equipment repairs, repair shop operations, including oversight of parts, materials, supplies and lubricant purchasing, record keeping, reporting, and security; oversees welding and fabrication; performs vehicle and equipment safety inspections; processes equipment records; parts/component sourcing, price comparisons, continual audit of shop operations for compliance with department procedures, environmental requirements, optimum shop safety, and maximum economy and efficiency of operations. Consults with mechanics on diagnosis of major component problems, planning of major tear-downs/overhauls, assessment of recurring operating problems, assessment of conditions affecting operating safety. Meets bi-weekly with all District mechanics at their respective shops for inspection and communication. Develops professional relationships with a multitude of vendors (parts, supplies, and service) for the purpose of obtaining more value for budget dollars.
Interfaces with WaFC supervisory personnel (Center Manager, Forest Area Supervisors, Operations/Maintenance Administrators, etc.) to discuss expenses and status of major equipment repairs and overhauls (out-of-body engine work, transmission rebuilds, heavy equipment tear down, etc.). Provides input when directed to assist in formulating statewide policies and procedures for equipment maintenance. Consults on specifications for new equipment purchases, equipment repair training, cost accounting and record keeping, and equipment research and development needs.
Uses computer data products to assess equipment, inventory, costs, utilization and vehicle history. Uses computer system to monitor the scheduled maintenance system and ensure that all equipment is being serviced in accordance with directives. Provides Duty Officers with training on FLEET to insure vehicle logs are input to the system within the required timetable. Completes and files all maintenance and workorder documentation for each vehicle serviced in a timely manner.
