MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

A high school diploma or its equivalent and (2) Two years of public contact experience, one of which must have been in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, or dispatching work. 

 

College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester (1 year) or 45 quarter hours (1 year) for up to a maximum of one year of the required general public contact experience. 

 

Requires possession of a valid class E driver license.

JOB DUTIES:

 

Directly responsible for the supervision and direction of the Fire Communications Center for the Waccasassa Forestry Center (WaFC).  These activities include direct support of fire suppression and other emergency response operations.  The incumbent coordinates emergency response of fire fighters, supervisors, pilots and law enforcement personnel through the supervision of a Fire Communications Center.  The Fire Communications Center responsibilities include providing the primary point of contact for all Florida Forest Service fire control and forestry related services available to the public. Successfully completes all training requirements for the Duty Officer Supervisor position within the time period designated by immediate supervisor and in accordance with the established training performance standards.

 

Regularly supervises the operations of the Fire Communications Center to ensure the effective use of time and resources. Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner.  Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with Florida Forest Service and department policies and procedures.

 

Responsible for maintaining communication utilizing telephone, radio and electronic resources with law enforcement personnel, supervisors, fire crews, aircraft and the general public concerning wildfires and smoke obscuring highways.  Ensures expeditious dispatch of appropriate emergency response personnel and equipment or aircraft as necessary.  Conducts training programs for Duty Officers to assure their continual update and familiarity with on-going operations, plans, policies and procedures related to the effective functioning of a fire communications and operations center.

 

Operates a computer for the purpose of transmitting, receiving and storing information related to the WaFC operations and communications.

 

Responsible for maintaining constant status and location of all fire crews and aircraft. Coordinates assistance with state, federal, and local agencies in emergency situations.

 

Responsible for processing travel approvals and reimbursements. Responsible for suppression billing and handling of revenue.  Responsible as back-up to the Accountant I, which includes but not limited to responsibility for maintenance of encumbrance, purchasing and budget records and reports, purchase card approvals, composition and development of correspondence and control of the information management system.  Responsible for fulfilling and/or administering the mandatory requirements of Section 215.422, Florida Statutes as it relates to the approval/processing of vendors’ invoices or the distribution of warrants to vendors.  Responsibilities are carried out through the effective supervision and efficient management of all resources available to the Fire Communications Center.

 

Ensures proper function of open burning authorization system.  This includes close monitoring of existing and anticipated fire weather and smoke dispersal conditions, adherence to division procedures, including adherence to rules related to smoke sensitive areas and maintenance of proper records to facilitate enforcement of provisions.

 

Responsible for developing accurate fire weather information.  Ensures dissemination of fire readiness levels and open burning stagnation index to supervisors and fire crews twice daily.

 

Performs other related work as assigned.
