Obtains and records vital signs and input/output each shift for all homes. Reports immediately any abnormalities to the Registered Nurse Specialist or Senior Licensed Practical Nurse for further evaluation.

 

Faxes and copies new orders for the nurses and takes the lab orders to the lab for each home. Transports lab specimens to the lab when obtained. Faxes appointment information for the homes that require special transportation. Thins charts regularly and maintains overflow of two years. Prepares and sends older information to storage.

 

Maintains adequate stock for medication rooms and supply rooms on each home with rotating of oldest to newest. Ordering supplies on a weekly or biweekly basis for each home. Maintains formula stock on each home and notifies Supervisor of inadequate supplies. Helps with monthly supply orders and makes sure stock rooms are cleaned by housekeepers when necessary.

 

Assists the nurses when there is an emergency or injury by: coping information from chart, developing picture in the clinic, and providing back up support for getting equipment that is needed (i.e. vital sign equipment, oxygen with mask, suction machine, chart for answering questions, etc.) Or assists nurse with admission back to home when returning from the hospital.

 

Assists nurse with treatments (i.e. lotions, creams, ointments, sprays, etc.)

 

Clean and maintain equipment used by the nurses and reports to the Supervisor any equipment that is malfunctioning.

 

Attends in-service training and other staff meetings as necessary.  Attends mandatory training and/or maintains certification in Prevention and Safety Strategies, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Direct Care In-Service.  Completes annual health screening. 

 

Performs other related duties as required.

Ability to understand and apply the methods and practices used in medical, psychiatric, nursing or childcare or in working with developmentally disabled persons.

Ability to carry out instructions for implementing prescribed treatments assigned by the nurses.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to use time management skills to effectively prioritize daily duties and responsibilities.

WORK SCHEDULE

 

This position is located at a 24- hour facility.  Working hours are from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
