A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations and one (1) year of professional experience in news reporting, editing, public relations, public information, advertising, marketing, mass communications or journalism. 

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations can substitute for the required experience. 

Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.  

Possession of a valid Driver License.

Social Media Management

  • Coordinate and develop content for social media platforms for the Division of Plant Industry and specifically the Don’t Pack a Pest program.
  • Write one blog post per week in the form of a Division of Plant Industry feature story.
  • Coordinate a minimum of 3 posts per week for each social media platform, not including the blog.
  • Monitor social media analytics and conduct research on best practices.
  • Keep each platform up to date with current policies and procedures of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.


Project Management Support

  • Serve as special assistant to the Don’t Pack a Pest program when needed.
  • Serve as support staff to special events/conferences planning.
  • Function as event planning liaison for meetings scheduled in the Doyle Conner Auditorium.
  • Serve as back-up to the photography team.


Switchboard Relief Operator

  • Relieve the switchboard operator for lunches and breaks daily.
  • Assist in annual backup switchboard relief operator training.

Inventory Management

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all division promotional items.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of division publications and sales.
  • Track location and use of Don’t Pack a Pest program and division event promotional material (pop-up banners, table top displays).
  • Gather and mail requested material for distribution at events.
  • Assist with purchasing of promotional and educational inventory.


Other Duties

  • Coordinate and produce weekly Leadership Team itinerary.
  • Assist the Director and Public Information Specialist when needed.


  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of public information and mass communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others within the division and department as well as outside, especially the media and industry representatives.
  • Knowledge of social media campaigns including analytics, content creation, and management of content (photos, videos, etc.).
