The Work You Will Do:
Materials Database Specialist / Engineering And Operations / Office of Materials / Materials Program Performance Section.
This position is a part of the Database and Information team and performs a variety of functions related to database development, application maintenance, report writing and data analysis. You will provide technical support for the Materials Acceptance and Certification system (MAC) and other State Materials Office databases and applications. The position also supports the maintenance of the State Materials Office Website and SharePoint sites.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Conducts all database activities for the Database and Information Section and assists as needed with other State Materials Office Sections. Programs and maintains Materials Acceptance and Certification (MAC) specifications and protocol for all materials related items. Troubleshoots all materials related problems encountered by users associated with MAC and other related databases. Monitors materials related performance in MAC and other related databases. Requests and directs all necessary modifications, updates, and enhancements for database functions.
Designs, deploys, and maintains the State Materials Office on-line resources for the purpose of disseminating information on program activities. Functions as a Web Master for the State Materials Office internet website and SharePoint Sites. Maintain the content, working links, graphic design and site layout.
Extracts data from appropriate construction, materials, and pavement management databases for reporting and analysis purposes. Performs detailed statistical analyses on existing materials testing data and applies engineering judgment to formulate findings and conclusions. Prepares technical reports summarizing findings and conclusions. Presents findings orally and in writing at meetings, conferences, etc.
Participates in the daily engineering activities associated with the statewide materials program. Prepares and reviews standards, specifications, procedures and reports as required. Provides background documentation of database applications for long-term maintenance efforts. Provides concise workflow explanations for user navigation of database workspace and reporting activities. Ensures that all assignments/projects are completed in a timely manner.
Assists State Materials Office and District Materials and Research Office staff with materials related database activities. Provide support and technical assistance to database users on issues related to testing, specifications, and reporting requirement.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques related to construction materials; Knowledge of construction materials specifications; Knowledge of construction materials mix design, production and construction operations and procedures; Knowledge of statistics and data analysis principles.
Skills in:
- Skilled in the use of computer software including Microsoft SharePoint, Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint; Skilled in the use of database systems including data entry, reporting, programming, and system maintenance.
Ability to:
- Ability to analyze and summarize data and prepare technical reports or presentations; Ability to communicate engineering information effectively both orally and in writing; Ability to plan, organize, and complete multiple work assignments simultaneously; Ability to work as a team member; Ability to work independently.
Other Job-Related Requirements:
Travel as required by section activities. This position will be required to respond before, during and following emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or its equivalent.
