Position Overview and Responsibilities:

The Florida Conservation Corps (FLCC) currently includes six staff members and 65 AmeriCorps national service members serving across 31 state parks and regional district offices. FLCC members focus on:

  • Managing invasive exotic plant species
  • Improving and assessing recreational trails
  • Recruiting and managing volunteers

Additionally, FLCC members are trained and available to deploy across Florida—and occasionally to other states—in response to natural disasters.

 

The incumbent in this role plays a critical part in the success of the FLCC program by:

  • Recruiting new AmeriCorps members
  • Supporting members in volunteer recruitment
  • Assisting with various program operations

 

Community Outreach

  • Conduct outreach at events and community locations throughout the year
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders

Training

  • Deliver training to AmeriCorps members on DEP branding policies and outreach best practices

Recruitment

  • Attend career fairs and recruitment events to promote FLCC opportunities
  • Develop and implement engaging outreach strategies
  • Post regularly on job boards and monitor applicant activity
  • Contact potential candidates to schedule interviews and track enrollment progress

Member Support

  • Track and monitor member activities related to outreach, interpretation, and events
  • Provide virtual and in-person support to members to help meet outreach and volunteer recruitment goals

Content Creation

  • Ensure all outreach materials comply with DEP branding and interpretation standards
  • Review and approve presentations, flyers, and other outreach materials
  • Coordinate with the DEP Communications Office for social media approvals
  • Maintain and update program forms and documents for consistency and compliance
  • Collaborate with the Interpretation Office on graphic design needs and approvals

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Florida’s natural and cultural resources
  • Computer operations, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Principles of customer service and public relations

Skill in:

  • Interacting professionally, tactfully, and courteously with internal and external stakeholders
  • Communicating clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Utilizing virtual communication platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom)
  • Accurately preparing reports and documentation
  • Managing and resolving conflicts constructively

Ability to:

  • Speak confidently in public, including both small and large group settings
  • Assist in planning and coordinating large-scale, week-long events (typically held in March, August, and December)
  • Follow verbal and written instructions accurately
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Interpret and apply relevant rules, directives, laws, regulations, and policies
  • Collaborate effectively as part of a team
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving techniques
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet travel requirements
  • Uphold professional standards at all times
  • Adapt to a fast-paced and continuously evolving work environment
  • Ability to travel approximately one week per month.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interpretation training (CIG or equivalent)
  • Graphic Design training
  • Leadership training

 

Pay:

$18.50 per hour
