Our Organization and Mission:
The Division of Certified Public Accounting is responsible for the licensing and regulation of Certified Public Accountants and Certified Public Accounting firms in the State of Florida. Our mission is to promote consumer protection by ensuring that certified public accountants and firms meet and adhere to the statutory requirements for licensure.
The Work You Will Do:
The incumbent in this position is responsible for processing applications for individuals and firms to determine eligibility for licensure, serving as a Tier-N for the exam and licensure team and serve as a committee liaison.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Reviews the more complex applications for licensure to determine eligibility for registration, certification, or licensure; independently evaluate qualifications and licensure criteria in accordance with laws and rules. Reviews complex background information to determine eligibility for licensure. Independently analyzes applications for Certified Public Accounting licensure and examination requirements to include detailed review of all applications within 90 days to determine eligibility for examination and licensure. Research course content to determine acceptability and appropriate category for course eligibility.
- Review curriculum, transcripts, degrees and other educational materials of applicants receiving education and training in foreign countries in order to determine applicant's eligibility for certification and licensure, and the continuation of practice in the respective profession. After complex review, applies rules to determine approval of applications. Processes applications for board review and final action at regularly scheduled board meetings.
- Composes and authorizes preparation of correspondence regarding licensure and regulation of professionals, provides application status updates, provides guidance to applicants seeking cure of application deficiencies, including processing requests for petitions, and responds to general public inquiries regarding examination and licensure requirements; includes communicating both verbally and in writing. Responds to complaints and inquires to the public, potential licensees and licensees, and provides information. Provides applicants personal guidance regarding certification and licensure, and other regulatory functions.
- Serves as Tier-N resource to resolve inquiries from applicants, internal department staff and external inquires, to include providing Certified Public Accounting updates on statute and rule changes. Review and make recommendation for improvements in procedures. Utilizes email, telephone, written correspondence, data base and the website to communicate up to date and accurate information regarding Certified Public Accounting.
- Coordinates and attends Certified Public Accounting committee meetings to include reviewing applications, collecting and organizing materials for agenda, and preparing agenda for meeting. Provides meeting materials to members and interested parties in accordance with division policy and procedures, provides committee with follow-up information to include researching committee members inquires or education institutions, course content, service providers, and statistical data. Post meeting notice in the Florida Administrative Register in accordance with established procedures. Prepares meeting minutes for chairperson's signature and ensure signed minutes are placed on agenda for ratification by the Board of Accountancy at the regularly scheduled board meeting.
- Utilizes department software to maintain application processing. Retrieve CPA exam scores from national database and update licensing system as required, code application updates according to department guidelines for tracking purposes, scan supplemental information to imaging system on a daily basis, update contact history on all customer interactions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read and understand college transcripts.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office programs like Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to compile, organize and analyze data.
- Ability to understand and apply Florida Statutes, rules, policies and procedures for licensing and regulation of professionals and facilities, and consumer protection.
- Ability to provide consultative assistance to others.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities.
- Ability to communicate and deal with people effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or higher.
- One year of working in a computer-based environment.
- One year of customer service experience in a telephonic or electronic environment.
Preferred:
- Preference may be given to applicants who have an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a concentration in business administration, accounting, finance, economics, information systems, management, or marketing.
- Applicants who have two years of professional or nonprofessional experience in academic advising, college admission and enrollment, college registration, curriculum design, or a related field may be substituted for the required college education.
