Responsibilities:
The incumbent is responsible for providing practical nursing services to developmentally disabled individuals at Tacachale.
Nursing Responsibilities:
a. Prepares, administers, and documents medications and treatments as per nursing policy and procedure.
b. Maintains documentation in accordance with established policies and procedures. Observes, records and reports physical and behavioral response to medication and treatment.
c. Uses nursing process for ongoing care of individuals as need is identified. Intervention would include, but not be limited to observation, referral to the registered nurse, medication, and treatment as prescribed and/or crisis intervention.
d. Maintains work area, medical supplies, and equipment and adheres to infection control policies.
e. Provides emergency nursing service within the scope of nursing practice.
f. Provides nursing care and administers treatment as directed by a registered nurse to subacute, chronic, and convalescent residents.
g. Prepares and administers hypodermic injections as ordered by the attending LIP.
h. Performs simple rehabilitative nursing procedures for selected chronically ill and aged residents.
i. Assists a registered nurse with screening procedures.
j. Assists LIP with physical examinations.
k. Assists registered nurses in completing and maintaining medical records and residents’ progress.
Incident Management Responsibilities:
- Complete Section II of the DDC Incident Report Form by providing a detailed description of the injury (size, shape, color, and location on the body).
- Indicate the treatment given and the plan of care.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Skilled in the use of emergency equipment within scope of training.
Ability to interact, assess and respond to individuals who are developmentally disabled.
Ability to provide emergency nursing care to include but not limited to basic life support, emergency care for choking (abdominal thrust).
Minimum Requirements:
This position may be required to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency per APD OP 2-0035.
This position is critical to the safety and supervision of residents and may require the incumbent to work beyond their normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels in the facility.
