SENIOR REGISTERED NURSE SUPERVISOR

This is a responsible professional nursing position involved in the planning, organizing, assisting and providing of nursing care at a state facility for the developmentally disabled.

ADMINISTRATIVE/PERSONNEL – communication, motivation of employees to improve quantity and quality of work performed.

Schedules assignments and vacations to maintain adequate coverage as per nursing policy.

Oversees the development and implementation of the appropriate sections of the medical/nursing care plan that is (1) based on holistic nursing assessments, (2) developed in concert with the interdisciplinary team, (3) designed to assure optimum health and the highest possible level of independent functioning for each person.

Interviews and hires applicants upon the approval of the Executive Nursing Director in accordance with Human Resources’ procedures.

Regular attendance at supervisory meetings and communicates with other supervisors as necessary.

Communicates with the Executive Nursing Director concerning current and potential problems with recommended course of action.

Ongoing communication with staff regarding progress, and changes in operating procedures, including holding formal staff meetings at least monthly.

Participates in budgetary process by monitoring use of resources, staff and supplies.

Attempts to resolve personnel disputes following personnel rules and regulations.

Completes performance evaluations timely and in accordance with personnel rules and regulations.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Ensures that nursing practice is in compliance with state and federal licensure requirements.

Makes rounds on a regular basis to provide nursing supervision as needed to ensure that quality nursing care remains high. This includes, but is not limited to, individual care, medication administration, nursing assessment, referrals, documentation and infection control measures.

 Assists in development, implementation and enforcement of operating procedures which pertain to or involve ethical nursing practice.

OTHER

Actively participates on nursing committees as assigned. Competently participates in center-wide committees as representative of the Nursing Department.

Oversees activities designed to maintain competency of direct care skills regarding delegated nursing functions.

Serves as interdisciplinary team member as necessary.

Acts as residence nurse when adequate staffing cannot be maintained.

Acts as Executive Nursing Director in their absence.

Serves as resource to other departments, nursing personnel and the community in an effort to promote awareness and understanding of developmental disabilities.

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

Plans, participates in and evaluates progress during orientation of new personnel.

Encourages staff participation in in-service training by keeping staff informed of opportunities and adjusting schedules to ensure that all mandatory training is completed within specified time frame.

Regularly attends in-service training and participates in continuing education programs to maintain and improve professional and supervisory skills.

Will comply with and monitor compliance of the mandatory requirements in section 215.422, Florida Statutes and Chapter 3A-24, Florida Administrative Code.

Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to interact, assess and respond to individuals who are developmentally disabled. Ability to include, but not limited to, basic life support, emergency care for choking (abdominal thrust), rescue breathing, and use of emergency equipment within scope of training.

Physical Demands include: Ability to complete PASS; incumbent will frequently assist in lifting and transferring residents weighing more than 100 pounds, on an as needed basis.

Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques.

Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.

Skilled in the use of emergency equipment within scope of training.

Ability to interact, assess and respond to individuals who are developmentally disabled.

Ability to provide emergency nursing care to include but not limited to basic life support, emergency care for choking (abdominal thrust), rescue breathing and use emergency equipment.

Ability to stand, walk, sit and bend for periods in excess of three hours.

Ability to assist in lifting and transferring residents weighing more than 100 pounds, as needed.

Ability to successfully complete Prevention and Safety Strategies Training.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT(S)

A valid Florida Driver’s License. (If initially hired with an out-of-state license the Florida resident must obtain a valid Florida State driver’s license within 30-days of hire. License suspended or revoked for any reason, work permits (Business purpose/Employment/Education only license) and some types of restricted license are not acceptable. License that have “Corrective Lenses Restricted,” are acceptable, provided the driver wears the corrective lenses while operating the vehicle.

Current Florida Registered Nurse License & CPR Healthcare Provider Certification.

 WORK SCHEDULE

This position is located at a 24- hour facility.  Working hours are daily from 8:00 a.m., to 5:00 p.m. Regular Off Days: Saturday and Sunday.
