Responsibilities:
Provides oversight and management of care delivered at the Tacachale Health Center; schedules assignments and vacations to maintain adequate coverage as per nursing procedures and needs of residents; and assists with center-wide scheduling as directed by Executive Nursing Director.
Oversees the development and implementation of the appropriate sections of the medical/nursing care plan that is (1) based on holistic nursing assessments, (2) developed in concert with the interdisciplinary team, (3) designed to assure optimum health and the highest possible level of independent functioning for each person.
Interviews and hires applicants upon the approval of the Executive Nursing Director in accordance with Human Resources’ procedures and participates in nursing recruitment initiatives.
Regular attendance at supervisory meetings and communicates with other supervisors as necessary.
Communicates with the Executive Nursing Director concerning current and potential problems with recommended course of action.
Ongoing communication with staff regarding progress, and changes in operating procedures, including holding formal staff meetings at least monthly.
Participates in budgetary process by monitoring use of resources, staff and supplies.
Performs supervisory Human Resouces duties, including People First management, drafting SMART Objectives, setting expectations and performing all talent management functions.
Completes performance evaluations within deadlines and supervises completion of all required documents/processes, such as HR referrals, termination, five-year background checks and health screening.
Provides oversight, supervision and evaluation during orientation of new employee nurses.
Provides oversight and supervision of Agency contract nurses in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.
Management and ordering of Parental feedings and durable medical equipment, including maintaining inventory, logs and appropriate documentation.
Provides on-call services on a rotation basis and direct nursing duties on all shifts if necessary. In addition, direct reports work on various shifts; therefore, it is expected that this nursing supervisor must observe and meet with direct reports during evenings, early mornings, weekends, etc. on occasion if necessary.
Provides supervision of nursing staff throughout the center, on an as-needed basis
Direct Service
Provides direct nursing duties, including completion of medication passes, as directed by the Executive Nursing Director. Attends meetings and completes reports on behalf of nursing staff as needed. Direct nursing duties will be provided on a regular basis by being placed on the center-wide schedule, rotating with other nursing supervisors.
Makes rounds daily to provide nursing supervision to ensure that quality nursing care remains high. This includes, but is not limited to, individual care, medication administration, nursing assessment, referrals, documentation, and infection control measures. Provides guidance for nursing staff and direct services as needed.
Provides on-call support during evenings and weekends, on a week rotation, with other nursing supervisors. In addition to troubleshooting and consulting with staff as needed, on-call responsibilities include reporting to Tacachale on all shifts if necessary, to complete direct nursing care, such as medication administration, assessments, treatments, and scheduling of nurse’s shifts.
Provides incident reporting and management of workplace incidents, accidents, or injuries as they occur. Response to the incidents include documentation, treatment, referrals, and follow-up of the incidents to provide accurate analysis, reporting and tracking of all organizational incidents involving the residents. This will identify and correct potential future re-occurrence.
Team Participation
Actively participates on nursing committees as assigned. Competently participates in center-wide committees as representative of the Nursing Department.
Oversees activities designed to maintain competency of direct care skills regarding delegated nursing functions, drafts AHCA corrective action plans and ensures implementation.
Serves as interdisciplinary team member as necessary, providing in-services on medical treatments for residential staff.
Supports other nursing supervisors and nursing staff as necessary to meet priority needs of residents, willingly pitching in to help as needed.
Professional Growth & Quality Assurance
Ensures that nursing practice follows state and federal licensure requirements, assisting with development and implementation of operating procedures pertaining to nursing practice.
Ensures completion of staff training by keeping staff informed of due-dates and adjusting schedules to ensure that all mandatory training is completed within specified time frame. Encourages attendance at optional training events as schedules and opportunities allow.
Regularly attends Inservice training and participates in continuing education programs to maintain and improve professional and supervisory skills.
Will comply with and monitor compliance of the mandatory requirements in section 215.422, Florida Statutes and Chapter 3A-24, Florida Administrative Code.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Skilled in the use of emergency equipment within scope of training.
Ability to interact, assess and respond to individuals with developmental disabilities.
Ability to provide emergency nursing care to include but not limited to basic life support, emergency care for choking (abdominal thrust), rescue breathing and use emergency equipment.
Ability to stand, walk, sit, and bend for periods in excess of three hours.
Ability to assist in lifting and transferring residents weighing more than 100 pounds, as needed.
Ability to supervise staff, ensuring efficiency with time and attendance.
Ability to provide in-service training to staff.
Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
Ability to supervise records management systems and documentation of services.
Ability to use all Microsoft applications, PPS, and all office equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective relationships and team building with others.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
Minimum Requirements:
A valid Florida Driver’s License.
Current Registered Nurse License & CPR Healthcare Provider Certification.
This position may be required to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency per APD OP 2-0035.
This position is critical to the safety and supervision of residents and may require the incumbent to work beyond their normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels in the facility.
