SENIOR RESIDENTIAL UNIT SPECIALIST -

DIRECT CARE

APD TACACHALE - GAINESVILE, FLORIDA

 

The primary function of this position is to provide direct supports and services to residents in the implementation of their individualized active treatment plans as prescribed by their Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) while maintaining their overall safety and well-being.

 

Assists residents with completion of their routine self-care needs and daily living activities, such as, personal hygiene, dressing, meal and snack routines, house chores, care of personal items, vocational activities, leisure and social activities and community outings.  Escorts residents to medical and therapy appointments.

 

Assists IDT members with the completion of comprehensive functional assessments for prioritizing residents’ training needs and program development to reach their goals and objectives as outlined in their Individual Support Plans. 

 

Implements residents’ formalized and structured training programs to optimize their independence in self-care and daily living skills.  Implements residents’ formal and informal behavioral reduction programs and procedures; provides behavior supports to residents that are dually diagnosed and display intense problem behaviors.  Conducts residents’ formal and informal training programs in the areas of leisure and recreation, speech and language, vocation, physical and occupational therapy. Records data daily as scheduled.

 

Follows safety practices related to resident safety to include but not limited to, following incident reporting procedures; following resident accountability procedures and following residents’ Safety Plans. Utilizes appropriate first aid procedures. Notifies nursing staff or supervisor of any safety issues in a timely manner. Participates in shift change procedures communicating effectively with oncoming shift. Remains on duty at the end of the shift until proper staffing is assured for the oncoming shift. Stays to work the next shift to ensure adequate staffing to meet the needs of the residents.

 

Maintains close observation, provides follow-up, and takes corrective action to prevent problems related to health and safety for staff and residents. Complies with infection control policies and procedures. Reports issues to management timely.

 

 

Attends in-service training and other meetings as assigned. Attends mandatory training and/or maintains certification in Prevention and Safety Strategies, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Direct Care In-service. Completes annual health screening.

 

Performs other related or assigned duties, as necessary.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Knowledge of the methods of instructing and providing care to others.

Ability to understand and apply the methods and practices used in medical, psychiatric, nursing or childcare, or in working with developmentally disabled persons.

Ability to read.

Ability to pay attention to details.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to carry out instructions for implementing prescribed treatment plans including behavior modification activities.

Ability to instruct others in basic self-care skills.

Ability to instruct others in recreational activities.

Ability to provide instruction and personal guidance and care to residents.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENT(S)

 

A valid Florida Driver’s License. (If initially hired with an out-of-state license the Florida resident must obtain a valid Florida State driver’s license within 30-days of hire. License suspended or revoked for any reason, work permits (Business purpose/Employment/Education only license) and some types of restricted license are not acceptable. License that have “Corrective Lenses Restricted,” are acceptable, provided the driver wears the corrective lenses while operating the vehicle.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

 

A high school diploma, and minimum of two (2) years’ experience providing care and treatment for people with developmental disabilities.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

 

Tacachale is a 24/7, 365 day a year facility. Available shifts are 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m./ 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m./ and 10:15 p.m. to 6:15 a.m.

(The successful candidate will be able to have off days other than Saturday and Sunday)

 

  • This position may be required to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency per APD OP 2-0035.
     
  • An essential function of this position requires the incumbent to work beyond their contracted work hours and/or their normal work schedule when instructed.
