REQUIREMENTS

 

This position requires a licensed dietitian or nutritionist with the State of Florida.  Must have experience instructing clients in nutrition principles, dietary plans and food selection and preparation. Experience supervising staff preferred.  Experience with FL-WiSe preferred.  Experience providing breastfeeding education and support to clients prreferred.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

Responsible for all aspects of operation for the WIC clinics at assigned clinic locations. Actively supports the clinics in increasing monthly WIC participation through exceptional customer service, leading, mentoring and motivating assigned staff, implementing strategies to increase service delivery, implementing and supporting WIC and DOH policies and procedures, assisting Division’s vendor manager with related vendor management activities.

 

Supervision:

- Oversees the activities of up to twelve employees.

- Directly supervises nutrition staff members, Records Specialist, and Clerical staff.

- Completes Performance Appraisals on all staff

- Ensures training and CEUs are current for all nutritional education subordinates.

- Certifies and approves EARs and timesheets per DOH policy.

- Participates in the recruiting and hiring process for staff and ensures new hires receive appropriate and required training.

 

Prepares the monthly clinic schedule for staff for assigned location and collaborates clinic coverage issues with other regional directors when there are staffing issues to ensure continuity of operations.

- Prepares and maintains a master schedule of clinics.

- Responsible for entering the clinics day to day schedules in FL-WiSE.

- At least biannually reviews the staffing at each clinic to assure that the client: staff ratio is appropriate.

- On a monthly basis, reviews the next available appointment list to determine the need for makeup days.

- Modifies the monthly schedule as needed based on illnesses, scheduled leave, etc. Is available each morning or evening by telephone to receive staff calls about potential scheduling alterations that may require changes in the day’s schedule.

 

Serves as point of contact for issues involving assigned clinics and is available to receive phone calls from WIC staff or other health care providers.

 

Functions as a Certified Professional Authority (CPA) in WIC clinics to counsel WIC clients, determine eligibility by assessing nutrition status and provides appropriate nutrition education. Completes Nutrition Assessment for all low, high, and medically high-risk WIC clients to provide client-centered nutrition service. Documents Nutrition Care Plan and identified nutrition risks using a standardized process. Ensures certified clients have the correct nutritional risk reason(s) assigned; appropriate food packages assigned; accurate and complete health data information; nutrition questionnaire appropriately assessed and completed and when required a high-risk care plan is developed within 45 days of certification. Provides Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment (VENA) based nutrition assessment and counseling utilizing appropriate educational materials. Assess clients’ readiness to change and help client choose appropriate goal (S). Makes referrals for appropriate health and social services. Established appropriate number of subsequent individual nutrition education contacts. Evaluates and revises nutrition care plan as needed. Promotes breastfeeding by providing breastfeeding education and support.

 

Obtains accurate data on height and weight measurements on participants. Performs hematocrit/hemoglobin testing and records results electronically. Cleans equipment and area where blood is done daily. Maintains "universal precautions". Follows established guidelines and standards for safety in handling equipment, biological specimens and waste products to prevent exposure to blood borne pathogens. Accurately completes the lab/anthro screens in FL-WiSE. Maintains and inventories all medical supplies.

 

Annually prepares the nutrition education plan including goals and objectives, community assessment, staff assessment, and clinic assessment for assigned clinics:

- Prepares regular progress reports and updates Division Director concerning staffing, personnel, budgetary, and all aspects related to clinical operations.
