Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent of this position is responsible for supervising positions who provide residential care, assist with enrichment activities and support the treatment, psychiatric rehabilitation, stabilization and recovery of people with a mental illness.  The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all subordinates treat people served in a respectful manner that preserves their dignity.  The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all subordinates develop and maintain a professional caregiver relationship with people served, and do not exceed relationship boundaries by developing personal friendships or sharing personal information. May supervise 2 or 3 buildings on the night shift

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all subordinates perform duties according to their position description and performance expectations. Nursing will provide guidance in the care and treatment of residents. 

3. Participate in and/or conduct therapy sessions including individual, group and activity programs and modules.

4.Supervise meal and face checks, report face counts, review controlled items, conduct room searches, escort residents, do room checks, and operate control panel

5. Work with adjunctive therapy programs to facilitate and/or assist with resident’s treatment.

6. Chart and monitor resident’s behavior during each shift.  Review resident’s problem list and write applicable notes. Serves as a positive role model for residents and staff.

7. Assist with data collection as necessary.

8. Maintain safe, sanitary, secure and therapeutic environment. Handle emergency situations on shift.  Provide crisis intervention and assistance to staff and residents as needed.               

9. Perform other related work as required.

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of forensic rehabilitation.
  • Ability to provide advice on problem cases.
  • Ability to assist in prescribing therapeutic objectives for patients.
  • Ability to coordinate and participate in therapy teams and group therapy sessions.
  • Ability to observe changes in patients' behavior patterns.
  • Ability to participate in making decisions regarding disposition and release.
  • Ability to prepare reports.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

These requirements are considered a term and condition of employment in my current job position:

  • Must be able to travel up 17 stairs and 50 feet in 30 seconds.
  • Must be able to go up and down 17 stairs 8 times in 8 hours.
  • Must have normal vision and hearing, including use of corrective devices.
  • Must be able to work with or around cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Must be able to do repetitive movements with arms, hands, neck and head; up to 60 movements in 1 hour.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in all areas of training, some of which requires physical activity such as CPR, MANDT and Heimlich training.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, turn, kneel, push and stoop 10 times in one hour, if necessary.
  • Must be able to physically operate all equipment necessary to do job tasks, including using a keyboard for 1 hour.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds or drag 150 pounds for 3 feet distance.
  • Must be able to carry up to 15 pounds up 17 stairs in 1 minute.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for 1 hour without a break.
  • Must be able to walk 800 feet without stopping in 5 minutes.
  • Must be able to work 16 hour shifts on occasion.
  • Must be able to remain alert for a period of 1 to 16 hours including normal breaks.

Must be able to drive an EZ Go or vehicle up to 3 hours at one time if job essential.
