MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in forestry and three (3) years of forestry experience; or
A master's degree from an ac credited college or university with major course of study in forestry and two (2) years of forestry experience.
Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
Requires possession of a valid driver license.

JOB DUTIES:
The incumbent spends majority of their time communicating with, motivating, providing, or coordinating training, and directing the work of subordinates. In addition, the incumbent must complete timely performance appraisals, develop accurate work plans, and timely approve attendance and leave for each subordinate. Incumbent has the authority to make recommendations for special pay increases, reclassifications, hiring, and disciplinary actions, when appropriate. Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner. Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with division and department policies and procedures.
This is a professional and supervisory position responsible for developing, directing, and coordinating all forest and ecosystem management activities on State Forests (Little Big Econ, Charles H. Bronson, and Holopaw). The employee must work independently in gathering and assembling data to effectively manage the forest. Daily supervision of this employee is performed by the Forestry Resource Administrator.
Responsible for the preparation and revision of the State Forests’ Resource Management Plans, as well as coordinating and supervising staff that perform activities encompassed by the plan. Activities include an all-season fire management program, including the prevention and suppression of wildfires; forest inventory including rare, threatened and endangered plant and animal species; timber sales; management of ecosystem restoration activities; road maintenance and repairs; establishment and maintenance of recreation sites; information and educational efforts; and administration of public safety issues on the state forests. Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Geographic Information System databases on the State Forests. Responsible for seeing that 5I-4 rules are enforced.
Responsible for personnel recruitment, work scheduling, administering supervision/discipline, training, employee performance appraisals, maintenance of related documentation, reports, equipment maintenance, and safety of forest personnel.
Responsible for maintaining documentation of state forest activities by keeping records of timber sales, stand descriptions, prescribed burns, reforestation, endangered and threatened species and occurrence, control of exotic species, calculation of field data and assembling it into permanent files for use in the land management program.
Provides wildfire and emergency response support as directed. Assists in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans and hazardous fuels mitigation. Assists in the enforcement of Florida’s open burning laws and regulation.
Responsible for fiscal items such as preparing and managing contracts for service, handling timber sale and recreation receipts, purchasing, and providing input on budgets.
Maintains contact with cooperating agencies (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Division of Historical Resources, Department of State, Water Management Districts, Seminole County, Orange County, Osceola County) environmental organizations, and organized user groups to ensure cooperative efforts and input into the management of the forest.
Keeps abreast and knowledgeable of forestry topics, ecosystems management, and rare and endangered species laws.
Performs other duties as assigned.
