This is a statewide advertisement for the Law Enforcement Officer position with the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. This advertisement will be used to fill multiple vacancies. 

 

 

GENERAL STATEMENT

The duties of this position require a constituted state law enforcement officer (pursuant to 379.3313, F.S.) certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, empowered to enforce all laws of the State with full powers of arrest. Responsibilities are to protect life, limb, and property on the waters and lands of the State. Enforce fish and wildlife laws and regulations, federal rules and regulations, and boating safety enforcement. This includes, but is not limited to, regulations of salt and freshwater fisheries, hunting, and the protection of both game and non-game species of fish and wildlife. This position investigates alleged violations of resource laws, seizes evidence, makes arrests, and testifies in court. Provides general police protection for citizens and visitors who use the lands and waters of the State of Florida. This position assists other agencies, upon request, in controlling and securing areas during disasters, hurricanes, fires, etc. and is subject to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position requires independent judgment and the ability to apply technical law enforcement knowledge with limited supervision. Duties require the member to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as directed.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Must be 18 years of age to apply and 19 years of age by date of hire

Be a US Citizen

Have a High School diploma or GED

Have a valid Class E Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

Have not been convicted of any felony or any misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement

Have not been dishonorably discharged from any of the Armed Forces of the US

Have good moral character

Successful completion of a full background check if selected

 

TRAINING ACADEMY

The FWC Training Center is located in Havana, Florida at the Florida Public Safety Institute (FPSI).  Applicants who are Florida certified law enforcement officers will attend an abbreviated training course. Out-of-state law enforcement officers must obtain their Florida Law Enforcement Certification to be eligible for the abbreviated training course. SALARY

Starting salary as a Trainee is $2,019.23 bi-weekly / $52,500.00 annually.

 

SELECTION PROCESS INFORMATION

Applicants who meet the above criteria and pass the physical fitness assessment will be eligible to advance to the next stages of the selection process that includes an oral interview, full background investigation, medical physical and eye exam, and a psychological evaluation.

 

Applicants who wish to be assigned to Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties must currently reside in the respective county.

 

PHYSICAL FITNESS REQUIREMENTS

Must pass a swimming test, consisting of swimming 150 yards continuously untimed and a physical abilities test (PAT) in eight minutes and thirty-six seconds (8:36) or less.

MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must pass a thorough medical examination, including drug screening, by a licensed physician at applicant’s expense.

Unaided vision shall not be less than 20/100 in each eye and shall be corrected to 20/20; field of vision must be 130 degrees; must have the ability to distinguish primary colors, must not be red/green deficient and have binocular vision; must not have double vision, lack of depth perception or other chronic eye disorders that affects normal vision.

Criminal History

  • Any felony conviction
  • A misdemeanor conviction involving domestic violence
  • A misdemeanor conviction involving perjury or a false statement

 

Military History

  • A dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States

 

Controlled Substance Abuse

  • Marijuana use, in past two years
  • Controlled substance use, other than prescribed, with in the last 5 years. 

 

Driving History

  • Driving Under the Influence or Boating Under the Influence conviction within past five years
  • Any traffic or boating violation involving the refusal to submit to a breath/blood/urine test within five years
  • No more than four moving violations within the past three years

 

 

Prior Law Enforcement and Correctional Officers

  • Any sustained internal investigation for perjury or false statements

 

Vision Standard
