Position Overview and Responsibilities:
Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422 F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.
This is moderately independent work providing Visitor Services, Resource Management, Maintenance, Administration and Protection of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park. This position may also be utilized at other park units for various duties.
VISITOR SERVICE: Will work with and coordinate the daily activities of volunteers and staff at the early 20th century historic house and grounds, including providing quality visitor services and interpretation: greet, provide accurate and engaging tours, clear signage, and print materials; plan and execute special events and maintain a calendar of tours and events. Respond to the park’s calls and correctly collect and document fees. Be understanding of quality visitor services, working side by side with museum guides as their team leader. Resolve any visitor concerns while maintaining good public relations.
MAINTENANCE: Will execute and coordinate the archival cleaning and maintenance of the historic park’s gardens, grounds, structures, duck and chicken pens, and trails. Track seasonal maintenance projects, for example the cleaning, repair, and annual documentation of the historic house, its original furniture, and objects in August and September of every year. Understand archival and routine maintenance procedures, equipment and documentation. Incumbent needs to be able to use a variety of equipment including hand tools, power washers, lawn mowers and vacuum cleaners.
ADMINISTRATION: Coordinate crew schedules and special event planning. Document and maintain park library. Complete required DEP and FPS training and documentation. Write articles for the website and newsletters.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Execute exotic plant removal and documentation. Provide for maintenance of the historic grounds and structures, including the citrus grove, ornamentals, and garden. Monitor the collections inventory, and research, write, and document grants for work needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Position of Special Trust Requirement:
This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

Visitors to this old Florida homestead can walk back in time to 1930s farm life when Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings lived and worked in the tiny community of Cross Creek.
Her cracker-style home and farm, where she wrote her Pulitzer prize-winning novel "The Yearling" and other wonderful works of fiction, has been restored and is preserved as it was when she lived here. Her book about her life here, "Cross Creek," will take you directly back to life on this land and in this community. Rawlings was honored as a Great Floridian by then Governor Charlie Crist in March 2009. The U.S. Postal Service released a commemorative stamp in 2008 honoring Rawlings and the literary arts.
