The Bureau of Parks District 5 is looking for a self-motivated park service professional to fill a Park Programs Development Specialist position.  The applicant must possess good administrative skills, be able to work independently, and travel for work related duties.  This position is responsible for providing a high level of coordination and assistance to the Bureau Chief, Assistant Bureau Chief and all District 5 parks.

Pay:

$2,964.00 monthly, $35,568.00 annually

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department’s Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position.  Actively supports and works toward fulfilling the agency’s Affirmative Action objectives. This managerial/supervisory position is responsible for maintaining effective internal communications with the agency’s standards and expectations for communication effectiveness.

 

This position is responsible for designing, coordinating and conducting comprehensive multi-media public relations and information services; identifying and developing programs for grant acquisition and administration, private and corporate foundation support and volunteer services for a Florida Park Service District including exercising independent judgement in handling media inquiries and news releases.

 

Meet public relations and informational needs of the district by:  Compiling and analyzing the informational requirements for each park and assisting parks in fulfilling those requirements; compiling and analyzing the public relations requirements for each park and assisting parks in fulfilling those requirements; compiling and analyzing the marketing requirements for each park and assisting parks in fulfilling those requirements; coordinating the planning, preparation and dissemination of news releases, newsletters, brochures, flyers, trail guides, exhibits and other materials; developing, coordinating  film, video, radio and television public service announcements with the Communications Department; coordinating district park’s content and participation in Florida Park Service web site.

 

Provide alternate funding assistance to district parks by:  writing and assembling grant applications and proposals for submittal to public and private granting sources; monitoring and coordinating grant project activities; serving as liaison between district, central office and the granting source; identifying and keeping abreast of available public and private programs useful in the operation of parks; designing and developing programs to encourage and receive corporate and/or foundation support; designing and developing programs to encourage and receive private donations.

 

Coordinates required district training as necessary including:  New Employee Orientation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Customer Service, Basic Interpretive Workshop, Boat Operations and Trailering, CPR/First Aid/AED/Oxygen, FPS Orientation, Archaeological Resource Monitoring, Fire Training S130 and S190 and Standards for Survival I-100.  Conducts quarterly Interpretive Chairpersons’ meetings and Annual Park Services Specialists’ meetings.  Assists parks with developing interpretive and environmental education programs.  Monitors district training, prepares all administrative reports on training and personal contacts.  Maintains the district training calendar.  Monitors the DEP Training site.  Coordinates equipment check-out; travel accommodations for district trainings.  Performs research and development on additional training opportunities such as professional development, environmental education programs and train-the-trainer workshops.  Processes Tuition Waiver Vouchers.  Coordinates Employee of the Month Awards, nominations for Davis Productivity, Valor, Lifesaving and Employee Recognition awards.

 

Monitors and coordinates Citizen Support Organization (C.S.O.) activities by:  assessing the need for a C.S.O. at parks throughout the district; assisting park managers in developing and establishing C.S.O.'s in parks; working directly with C.S.O.'s and park managers to enhance efficiency, effectiveness and promote harmony within established C.S.O.'s.

 

Design, develop and maintain an effective volunteer program by:  actively working with park managers to make the public aware of park needs regarding volunteers; assisting park management with recruitment of volunteers; assisting park management with volunteer recognition and general program activities.

 

Monitor, coordinate and maintain district informational network by:  serving as liaison with department and division information offices; researching newspaper articles, radio and television news and public affairs broadcast to monitor results of all district/park programs; processing all brochures orders for new and revised brochures, reviewing for accuracy and completeness.

 

Performs related duties as required.
