Your Specific Responsibilities:

 

 

This position is to work as a Health Support Specialist answering the WIC appointment line located in the Summit Professional Building, including performing Health Support Technician or Senior Clerk duties in all WIC clinic locations - Hudson, Holiday, Wesley Chapel, and Dade City as needed.  The incumbent will be required to work at all sites, with a schedule in place or advance notification of changes.  This is a highly skilled position which requires an expert understanding of the Federal WIC Program and the use of the WIC FL-WiSE System with minimal supervision.  Having successfully completed the Florida Paraprofessional Training modules, will assist in providing quality nutrition services to WIC participants in compliance with the Federal Regulations. The incumbent is expected to promote cooperation, courtesy, and teamwork, in a diverse environment and as an employee of the Pasco County Health Department, represents the agency and its mission and values while acknowledging that all information held in health records is confidential, with access governed by the state and federal laws. Confidential information includes the clients name, address, medical, social, and financial data, and services received. This position requires reliable transportation to travel to all WIC sites. 

 

When working as one of the primary contact persons for appointments, answers telephones or returns calls promptly and courteously; schedules appointments and makes appropriate health and social services referrals. Maintains current knowledge of the Federal WIC program regulations including WIC memos, WIC FL-WiSE system guide and the DOH manual 150-24.  Accurately compiles and records income, demographic, and other information necessary to determine WIC program eligibility and advises WIC participants of their rights and obligations according to federal guidelines. Ensures that the Florida voter registration processes are completed accurately.  Issue EBT card benefits.  Conducts secondary low risk nutrition education contacts in a group or individual basis after successful completion of Florida training modules.  Maintains a courteous and cooperative working relationship with staff and the public.  Assists in decreasing non-participation by contacting clients for appointments who appear on related reports such as the No Show and Clients Eligible for Benefits reports.

 

Obtains accurate data on height and weight measurements on women, infants, and children.  Performs hematocrit/hemoglobin testing and records results electronically.  Cleans equipment and area where blood work is done daily.  Maintains “universal precautions” in completing clinic HST functions.  Follows established guidelines and standards for safety in handling equipment, biological specimens, and waste products to prevent exposure to blood borne pathogens.  Completes the Lab/Anthro and Immunizations sections in electronic system. 

 

Assists with QA/QI projects and related data entry, including but not limited, to WIC Services Indicators and data needed for All WIC Staff Meetings. Assists the supervisor with the training of new clerical staff as needed.  Attends staff meetings and trainings as required. Participates in outreach efforts. Refers vendor queries to the vendor manager and client concerns to the supervisor. Other duties as assigned.

 

Promotes and supports breastfeeding clients and initiatives.  Reads, understands, and implements directives. Completes and submits time sheets, EARS, and travel accurately and according to established division and agency guidelines.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

 

  • Knowledge and experience utilizing software programs as Excel, Power Point, and Word.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, ability to perform arithmetical calculations.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner, maintain records, organize, and coordinate work assignments, communicate, maintain effective working relations and good rapport.
  • Ability to take on multiple responsibilities and new tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to adapt and resolve challenges.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Minimum

Must have valid Florida Driver’s License. 

Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.
