Your Specific Responsibilities:
The position performs advanced level laboratory operations, works independently with minimal supervision, Maintains and processes laboratory test performed both in house and send out labs. Responsible for maintaining compliance with state guidelines in regards to laboratory. The work requires knowledge of business practices and clinic policy and procedures. Responsible for maintaining logs for all controls on equipment for lab and ensures compliance at all Pasco clinical sites, which will involve traveling within Pasco to all sites. Performs a variety of specimen collection such as urine, venipuncture, virology, sputum, and stool samples as ordered by all providers in all areas of the clinic. Coordinates with contracted labs to maintain lab supplies, forms and equipment to ensure lab is fully stocked. Reviews lab results and flags to the provider in a timely manner. Prepares specimens to be sent to outside labs such as State and private labs for testing. Keeps the lab sanitized at all times of the day. Corrects error reports from various labs when ICD10 info or other pertinent information is needed. Reviews ICD 10 codes on lab slips to ensure proper billing for tests being performed. Draws specialized testing such as T-spots, IGRA, and Zika and packages and ships to appropriate lab. Processes urine for pregnancy testing. Preforms lead and hemoglobin blood testing. Ensures both refrigerator and freezer are maintained at proper temperature for storage of specimens.
Maintains logs of tests performed. Receives and distributes lab reports in a timely manner for practitioner review. Prepares specimens for shipment to the contract lab and for mailing to the Department of Health state labs on daily basis. Maintains, cleans, and seeks repair of lab equipment
Assists clinic and divisional staff in outreach projects, specifically projects requiring blood specimens
Performs other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge principles of biology, chemistry, and physics.
Knowledge of medical technology practices and procedures.
Knowledge of the types of laboratory tests.
Knowledge of equipment and testing procedures.
Knowledge of significance of laboratory test.
Skill in operating laboratory and scientific equipment for conducting tests.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum - Certified Phlebotomist.
Preferred - Certified Lab Technician.
