Your Specific Responsibilities:

 

The incumbent in this position requires minimal supervision and makes independent decisions in providing disease intervention and public health awareness activities as an integral member of the DOH Pasco STD Program. These activities include but will not be limited to partner counseling and referral services, epidemiological case analysis and investigations, notification, counseling, and referral services of individuals exposed to or at risk of infection from chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis, herpes simplex virus (HSV), HIV/AIDS, human papilloma virus (HPV), syphilis, and other bacterial, biological, and viral agents. This position requires first-hand knowledge of public health systems as well as professional and interpersonal skills to interact with health care clients and health care professionals and others who impact STD prevention and control, Public Health awareness, and other DOH activities. Duties will also require skill in communicating with and eliciting information from patients and target groups from diverse backgrounds. All activities will be performed observing federal and state confidentiality statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

 

Monitors task list from STARS daily.  Investigates, interviews and re-interviews sexually transmitted diseases and human immunodeficiency virus (STD/HIV) reported cases, suspects and contacts.  Conducts field visits as needed. Visits public and private clinics, clinicians, hospitals, laboratories and other health care facilities to encourage reporting of cases and positive/reactive test results in a timely manner. Communicates with physicians, hospitals, clinical and laboratory personnel (both public and private) to obtain medical histories and other related patient information.  Confirms diagnosis and treatment to arrange for physical examination and treatment if not yet completed. Counsels and educates individuals and groups regarding disease processes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention techniques. Obtains venipuncture, urine and oral specimens as needed for STD/HIV testing during field/office investigations using appropriate techniques and personal protective equipment (PPE).  Enters data into STARS in a timely manner.

 

Assists in conducting direct observed therapy (DOT) in west Pasco in order to assure patient compliance with medication. Routinely updates and collaborates with TB program manager regarding suspect and confirmed Tuberculosis (TB) cases. Provides assistance in locating individuals who are delinquent, non-compliant or lost to medical supervision to assure treatment is completed as prescribed. Collects patient specimens (i.e., sputum) as needed. Assist TB program manager during outbreak investigations of TB.

 

Conducts educational activities with both lay and professional audiences; provides in-service training to medical professionals on such subjects as STD/HIV counseling and testing.  Follows DOH Pasco Security policies and procedures. Assists in the identification, planning and implementation of targeted screening-outreach programs based on basic analysis of disease trends and distribution among various cultural, social, economic, and subgroup populations in the community. Encourages 100% condom use.  Attends Epidemiology Program staff meetings and area STD program meetings. Prepares reports and maintains appropriate records as required. Functions on call during a disaster according to DOH Pasco policy and procedures.

Qualifications:

 

Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License. 

Must have reliable transportation. 

Adheres to security and confidentiality of medical records as they relate to policies and procedures of the Pasco County Health department. 

Completes and submits accurate timesheet biweekly at the end of the pay period. 

Provides Customer Service in a professional and courteous manner.
