This position is located at Martin Correctional Institution.

 

This position operates and maintains the Wastewater Treatment Plant at Martin Correctional Institution in compliance with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) permit and DEP rules and regulations.  The incumbent will carry out the preventative maintenance program at the plant, repairs all breakdowns that can be handled at the operator level, and troubleshoots other specialized equipment for the utility operation such as compressors, pumps, air blowers, chlorinators, etc.  Responsibilities will include ordering and stocking all chemicals used in the operations process,  cleaning bar screens, grit chambers and settling and sludge beds, collects samples and performs tests including, but not limited to chlorine levels, dissolved oxygen, total solids, suspended solids, biological oxygen demand and acid of alkaline tests. Prepares reports as required on plant operations from the daily tests and maintains an operating log.  Prepares reports of progress and performance for assigned inmates for use by the inmate’s classifications team in measuring and determining the rehabilitative progress of the assigned inmate and provides personal counseling when necessary for inmates consistent with motivational needs and the development of a positive approach to rehabilitation efforts.  Maintains custody and control of inmates as assigned under the supervision of the position in accordance with the accountability requirements for inmates outlined in the operational procedures.

 

Ability to work in a training capacity with people in individual and group settings, to collect, record and evaluate data relating to the training of individuals, to prepare and maintain records and other instructional materials, to work independently, to speak clearly and correctly to individuals and groups, to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments, to communicate effectively, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, and to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to vocational instruction.
