Participates in surveys and complaint investigations of health care and residential facilities in a seven county area to determine compliance with federal and state regulations.  Overnight travel is involved.  Must be able to work occasionally before and after normal work hours, including weekends and holidays.  Applicants may reside in any of the seven counties (Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns, Volusia). 


Nursing Home, Assisted Living, Hospital, ESRD and/or Home Health  experience preferred


  • Knowledge of the principles of nursing practice, state licensure and federal certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of inspection of care process.
  • Skills are needed in the technique of oral communication, especially attentive listening; interview procedures; methods of documentation review, and investigational techniques.
  • Ability to plan and organize is required to ensure timely completion of survey responsibilities.
  • Ability to utilize microcomputer equipment and software to enter, retrieve and manipulate data required to perform licensure and certification functions; ability to write reports.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to work occasionally before and after normal work hours, including on weekends and holidays.
  • Registered Nurses shall earn not less than 12 hours of required continuing education credits in geriatric care prior to professional licensure renewal.
  • Must successfully complete Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test within first 12 months of employment.


  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27 and three years of professional nursing experience, including one year of professional experience in a specialty field as determined by the employing agency.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in nursing or a related field can substitute for one year of the required general professional nursing experience.
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, nursing education, public health, or a related field can substitute for two years of the required general professional nursing experience.
