This position requires a valid Class B driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Drivers Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

  1. three (3) or more moving violations in the past 3 years that accumulate 3 or more points per violation;
  2. any 2 convictions of reckless driving in the past 3 years;
  3. a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past 3 years; and
  4. a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past 4 years

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Performs routine maintenance, structural repairs, and emergency repairs to bridges and ancillary structures. Operates lift equipment such as bucket trucks and platform trucks. Operates and maintains the maintenance Under Bridge Inspection Machine.

 

Performs maintenance inspections, routine maintenance, routine repairs, and emergency repairs to mechanical equipment and electrical systems.

 

Plans and organizes work needs for maintenance and repair of bridges and ancillary structures. Directs and trains assistants in the performance of routine maintenance and repairs of bridges and ancillary structures.

 

Performs operational maintenance and periodic preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of bridge and ancillary structures maintenance and repair methods and processes
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment and electrical systems.
  • Skilled in maintenance and repair work.
  • Skilled in using tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to work from lift equipment and ladders, climb stairs, and work at heights of 50 feet or greater.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift 50 lbs. from ground level.
  • Ability to crawl and work in confined spaces.

 

OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS:

A valid Class "B" CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with air brakes is required at time of hire. While on-duty status, the position’s incumbent must be readily available to operate a commercial vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of commercial driver’s license (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety sensitive functions.

 

To be in compliance with the District Two Loss Prevention Procedure and be aware of reducing personal injury and vehicular accidents. This position will be required to respond before, during, and following emergency situations. This position has on-call responsibilities for returning to work to handle emergency situations or other needed activities.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, highways or bridges, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment; or Vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades (720 classroom hours will substitute for each year of the required experience). Possesses a valid Class “B” CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with air brakes is required at the time of hire.
