DESCRIPTION:
The Office of System Innovation seeks a highly organized, self-motivated individual to perform a variety of recurring and ad hoc data analyses using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and other software including Excel and potentially Tableau and Stata. The Research Data, and Innovation office is responsible for informing the Department's leadership, as well as the public, on the effectiveness of all juvenile justice activities funded by the State of Florida. Research analysts are additionally responsible for answering day-to-day operational, data or research-related questions posed by the Department's leadership team as well as requests received from other critical stakeholders, such as the Governor's Office and Legislature.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This remote-eligible position is responsible for the development of complex datasets by writing code in SPSS, Structured Query Language (SQL), and Stata to extract data from a variety of systems, to include the Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS). Includes data studies, evaluations, analyses and research. Serve as a circuit liaison/coordinator for all assigned Circuit Advisory Board (CAB) tasks, which pertain to the Department’s identified objectives. Activities include but not limited to evaluating circuit data requests for completeness and intended audience. Builds datasets using joins, merges, and appropriate calculations and transformations for a variety of novel, ad-hoc reports, and tests the accuracy of data and output at each step. Conducts routine analysis and new development by using various coding languages to create new data analyses. Summarizes data utilizing finished datasets, including use of descriptive and inferential statistics, to respond to policy and practice-related questions posed by leadership, the Executive Office of the Governor, the Legislature, and other stakeholders. Facilitate the development of a job-specific work plan to include by not be limited to a task list, action items, and timelines for supervisor review and approval. Serve as liaison/coordinator for all assigned cross branch/cross program area (e.g., prevention, probation, detention, and residential) tasks, which pertain to the Department’s identified objectives. Activities include but not limited to evaluating regional data requests for completeness and intended audience. Review and request relevant data and data analysis from an approved departmental source. Review and analyze data and consult with Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) Office of Research and Data Innovation (RDI) and the Director of System Innovation on collection and management of data. Facilitate meetings with internal (e.g. executive leadership) and external (e.g. states attorneys, judges, and public defenders) stakeholders and deliver professional presentations aimed at gaining support for Department cornerstone initiatives. Assist with training DJJ staff on data analysis, creating charts, graphs, and PowerPoint presentations for CABs and other collaboratives. Provide recommendations for DJJ level initiatives designed to reduce recidivism and improve policy and practice.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A master's degree from an accredited college or university.
Extensive experience with the Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS).
Knowledge of Florida's juvenile justice system.
Experience with SPSS, SQL, SAS, Tableau and/or Stata.
