Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a professional position assigned to the Environmental Manager. Position is responsible for conducting all assigned inspections for each designated program area: Swimming Pools and Limited Use Well Surveillance as well as other Environmental programs such as Rabies, Beach Monitoring, and Mobile Home parks under Florida Statutes, 381, 386, 154, 120, 513, 232, 373, 392, 400, 401, 403, 458, 459, 464, 489, 509, 513, 775. Performs all special assignments and other duties and responsibilities as required, including but not limited to participation in all matters relating to disaster drills and actual emergencies/disasters (including Bio-Terrorism events). Serves as one of the backups on call staff for any biomedical waste spills/complaints. Position is responsible for completing all required reports including mileage, Daily Activity Reports, HMS, People First Leave and Attendance, Outlook Calanders and any other necessary documents.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to collect record and analyze technical data relating to sanitation and safety standards. Ability to understand and apply specific rules, regulations, Policies and Procedures relating to the safety and sanitation inspections of regulated facilities. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to deal with public in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to work independently. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques. Computer skills that include, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, and the Environmental Health Database System. Able to maintain appropriate self-confidence and controls emotional reactions when relating to others in a group or one-on-one so effective communication can occur. Communicates without ridicule, threats, or emotional outbursts. Allows time for practice of new tasks or skills. Explains reasoning behind own opinions. Remains calm in a high-pressure situation. Demonstrates high standards of ethical conduct. Skilled in communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees' work assignments. Able to hire, promote, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a physical, natural, biological, or environmental science with at least 30 semester hours in natural or physical science courses.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
- Must be currently employed with the Florida Department of Health
