Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma and two years of post-high school experience in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction is required.

 

Vocational training or an Associate’s degree in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction from an accredited school or college may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 


 Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
Experience working outdoors.

Experience working in fisheries or with fisheries data.

Experience with data collection or data entry.

Experience with interacting with the public in an official capacity.

 

Requirements:
Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory Level 1 background check at no cost to the candidate.
 

This position will be expected to work on weekends and some holidays.

 Position Overview and Responsibilities:...

FWC’s Fisheries Dependent Monitoring is seeking three OPS Fish & Wildlife Technicians to assist with the execution of a monitoring effort to estimate the number of reef fish trips taken by anglers. The individuals will be responsible for conducting boat counts near inlets and interviewing anglers coming back to boat ramps around their trips. Essential duties include conducting interviews, careful data collection, data entry, and quality control checks on their data. Individuals will need to be able to complete their duties at scheduled times with little to no supervision. The position will require travel to dockside locations in the individual’s personal vehicle, reimbursable at the applicable mileage rate. This position will require the candidate to work long hours, as well as on weekends and holidays outdoors and sometimes under adverse conditions.

 

The qualified applicant would be home-based in the Northeast region of Florida with travel throughout Nassau, Duval, St. John’s, and Flagler Counties.
  
 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of offshore recreational fishing methods and behavior, data collection, and data entry.

Experience with the following: communication with the public; working effectively as part of a team and independently under minimum supervision; thinking logically and apply problem-solving techniques; effectively communicating verbally and in writing; working unusual or long hours, holidays, maintaining frequent contact with other staff and supervisors; and operating a personal computer and various word processing and data software.
