This is a Senior Registered Nurse position who serves in the Comprehensive, Basic, and Full-Service School Nursing Programs providing public health nursing services within the Duval County Public School System under the supervision of a Registered Nurse Supervisor and/or Registered Nurse Consultant. The responsibilities will include analysis of the total health care of students with chronic illnesses/disorders and/or communicable diseases and provides care and treatment of students in a school clinic. Provides training programs to staff, school personnel and students and assists in orientation programs.

  • Provide assessment of health needs of students through screening procedures, analysis of records, and assessment of students referred by school personnel.
  • Initiates nursing care plans on all students identified with a chronic disease or disorder. Provides direct care to identified students through assessment, referrals, health counseling, and follow-up.
  • Assess the home environment through home visits for the purpose of promoting understanding of a health problem or behavior if needed.
  • Encourages immunization compliance of all students.
  • Assists school staff in meeting the requirements according to Florida School Health Act.
  • Gathers records and reports statistical data relating to health concerns and nursing services.
  • Provides assistance to the Adolescent Mobile Health Van within the Full-Service Schools, Basic and Comprehensive School Nursing Program.
  • Assists in administrating the School Health Services Program as mandated by the School Health Service Act, 381.0056, F.S.

  • Responsible for instruction and training of school personnel, Health Support Technicians and students concerning health matters. Assists in planning programs to achieve these goals.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new team members.
  • Supports and educates the Department of Health goals and objectives.
  • Participates in goal orientated focus groups to improve School Health Services.
  • Attends all required or assigned staff meetings, in-services or training programs.
  • Provides consultation and educational health information regarding health issues.
  • Provides and or assists with classroom health education programs as invited or arranged.
  • Travel in order to perform duties as described. Attend and participate with in-service education programs for the
  • purpose of keeping abreast of current health knowledge.
  • Performs other related work duties as required. Employee is expected to complete timesheets, EARs/DARs, and all mandatory trainings both accurately and within the required timeframe.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse
  • CPR/First Aid Certification per FL Rule 64F-6.004.
  • Other job-related requirements for this position: Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  • A valid drivers’ license and use of a private vehicle is required.
  • Must have a minimum of 1-years’ experience in nursing. 
  • Must be able to routinely lift a minimum of 20 lbs. Minimum one year of nursing experience.

Preferred:

  • Prior nursing experience in pediatrics or school health
