Your Specific Responsibilities:

Participate in meetings, on committees, task teams and other groups with internal and external customers to represent traffic engineering and safety interests. Maintain effective contact with local organizations to ensure information exchange on local safety issues. Includes, providing useful commentary and review of work products as well as developing correspondence and follow-up contact as needed. Travel as necessary.

Serves as the lead point of contact within Traffic Operations for the Traffic Safety Marketing and Outreach Program’s planning and implementation. Helps with identification, evaluation, prioritization, programming, and mapping of Traffic Safety marketing outreach. Track progress of and is a resource to District staff for programmed Traffic Safety marketing campaigns.

 

Participate in project safety activities and ensure that safety designs are considered in the project concepts. Provides recommendations on scopes primarily, but also reviews Project Development & Environmental (PD&E) plans, design scope of work, design plans, traffic operations improvements, safety project plans, as well as applications for funds which involve bicycle or pedestrian facilities.

 

Develop and review engineering reports and studies. This includes preparing and disseminating the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) tracking reports, study documentation and presentation of findings and conclusions, analysis of engineering data, and coordination of resources necessary to produce reports.

 

Assist the Traffic Safety Program Engineer in implementing business and related plans to guide resource allocation and achieve unit performance targets. Includes collaborating with others in plan development, reporting plan results, linking performance targets to SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound) objectives in staff expectations, and identifying and making resource recommendations.

 

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of traffic engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of traffic operations analysis and study techniques.
  • Knowledge Florida's Strategic Highway Safety Plan.
  • Knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation policies and procedures related to planning. functions within District One and Central Office.

 

Skills in:

  • Skill in effective written and oral communications, including strong presentation skills.
  • Skill in interpreting and logically applying regulations, guidelines, and requirements relating to mobility and transportation.
  • Skill in use of personal computers and ability to use Microsoft Office® (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access & Outlook).

 

Ability to:

  • Ability to manage marketing and outreach projects (Facebook, Twitter, etc).
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret engineering data.
  • Ability to manage workload to produce on time resolutions to problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

 

Other Job-Related Requirements:

  • This position will be required to respond before, during and following emergency situations.
  • Employee will be required to be responsive to emergency situations within a very short timeframe and serve in the Transportation Emergency Management Team (TEMT).

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma and three years of engineering, traffic studies, or traffic safety experience; or An associate of arts or science degree in engineering technology and two years of engineering, traffic studies, or traffic safety experience; or A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering technology and one year of engineering, traffic studies, or traffic safety experience; or Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and has an Engineer in Trainee (EIT) certification in either Florida or another State; or An active International Municipal and Signal Association (IMSA) Sign and Pavement Marking certification.
